Default Its rough owning a Mustang GT these days..

Cobras all over the place making crazy power, 11 and 12 second Lightnings, cocky LS1 drivers laughing at your ride. AWD imports revvin at you every single light... its tough to own a Mustang GT these days. Everywhere you go you have a target on your back since you own a Mustang and Mustangs are supposed to be fast. Just so far this week, I lost twice to the same Lightning and had a girl revvin up her boyfriends modded 03 Cobra at me. Right now Im in a bind, so I cant get the new drag radials I really need and my bottles empty, but even with the spray and new tires I cant keep up with alot of these cars running around. My hands are tied until next year so I guess I'll keep gettin my but handed to me....

heh.
Im sorry you feel bad about having a GT.....
I for 1 feel opposite of you though. I am happy with my GT. And I still feel like I own the road when I drive it. Dont feel bad if u are losing to Lightnings and cobras and Ls1's. those cars are priced at a higher dollar then Mustang GT's. They have more power out teh box.
Now..if you were losing to civics and toyota corolas (howeva u spell it), and SRT 4's ...then there is a problem......

Just get a Kenne Bell or vortech supercharger...then u can compete with the cobras n lightnings................

You own a Mustang GT, man! Revel in it! I've been driving around for a few weeks in my GT and I still get a kick out of getting my head snapped back in first gear. I love the sound of the engine and exhaust while I'm driving. I love feeling the engine torque when I rev in neutral. And most of all, I just love crusing on the highway at 70 with some music cranked, dropping it down into 4th for pure entertainment. Revel in the fact that you own a part of something that was concieved when your mom and dad were little kids. Revel in the fact that you own a part of something that may outlive you. And most of all when LS1 drivers give you ****... revel in the fact that the major reason that they dont make Camaros and Trans Ams anymore is basiclly your fault. :toothy9:

I look at it this way.

I'm 20 years old. I'm paying for my GT myself. Mommy and daddy didn't hand me a Lightning or Cobra, and I sure as hell can't afford one right now. The GT is plenty fast for now.

But one day...

Enjoy the car, and enjoy the heritage. It's people like us who are the reason the Mustang is the last of the production muscle cars. (dont even bother bringing up the modded dodge magnum that they claim is the new Charger. how disappointing... 4 door muscle car? Honey? Baby? Can i take my ***** out of the jar on your shelf so i can go play with our new charger? I Promise i wont take out the baby seat!)
what about the new gto Its the original muscle car And i love my 90 5.0 lx 5spd it looks compleetly stock and thats what makes it so fun to drive cuase people dont relize its modified under the hood The most fun i have Is when i go to the track and am siting next to some kids with their hopped up hondas the look at me and my "stock" lx and the just smile and chuckle amongst themselves untill i put my helmet on then they stop chuckling and stop looking at me and my stang Its fun to have a car that is fast that dosnt look fast

Smile Never fear!!

Well guys, don't feel so down. I am doing my best to keep up the GT legend. I have a 2000 GT with the HP Systems Stage 1 Twin Turbo Kit. Believe me, the LS1's, Cobra's and Lightning's don't say anything to me. And the WRX's, hahaha, there's a reason I have a big Silver sticker on my back windshield that say's "Rice Killer" loud and proud. I'm in the process of upgrading the brake system (ha, imagine that), chassis rigidity, and fuel system. I badly need some drag radials too, but for now the yokohama 18's do fairly good. I havent been dyno'd yet but expect to be around 580'ish rwhp. Uhh, honda, what? :hello2:

Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing how poorly my kumhos handle 400+ rwhp from the aftercooled vortech

I can't claim sleeper status either. Kinda hard when my car is whistling at everybody!

It's all about the supercharger or NOS or turbo on our cars. The 4.6 doesn't have a lot of room to gain huge numbers NA. If you want an awesome NA motor, 5.0 Cammer!

True True, I had a 95 TA and loved it untill I totaled it. Now 5yrs later and little bit wiser, I go to search for another TA....the damn things are STILL overpriced!! Then I saw the GT, hoped in and gave it HELL and fell inlove. I cant blame GM for not making them anymore, these cars are supposed to be the poor mans sports car (i.e. the college student) but with gas prices and inflation who can afford them "Damn you Big Three!!" But on the bright side, the mustang has stayed because they know whos buying there cars.

I agree V8,

I love my GT, feel the same way when I'm crusing around Tucson. I really don't care if some ricer/truck/LS1, whatever can tapdance all around me on 2 wheels! I LOVE Mustangs, always have, always will. There will ALWAYS be SOMETHING faster, you can either live with that fact, and enjoy what you have, or go nuts trying to "one-up" everybody.

I've had a 66 coupe, 69 MACH I, 95 Cobra, and now my 01 GT. Loved all of them.

Peace,

RADA

Ive had all kinds of Chevys in the past, 73 z28, 78 z28, 86 Iroc, 95 LT1 z28, and a 79 Corvette but love my 03 GT more than all of them. May not be as fast as some of them but damn it looks good. And I think its more fun to drive.

Mustangs are a classic, and will always be. Though they may not be the fastest off the lot, they can compete with anything with enough time and money. Your not only driving a car, your riding on sacred road. Road that was torn up by our forefathers in their Mustangs. The Mustang will never die, it is the symbol of American Muscle. So keep on racing and remember the history you have to protect. Amen.

Id love to have a GT500 too and by the time it comes out, I will be back at work and able to afford it, but not only would it be the car payment for a $40,000+ car, but the insurance on a 450 Mustang will be outragous.

Print up some business cards that say the following:

"Since I'm no longer 16 and stupid I don't race in the streets anymore. If you're serious about this, I am available at (fill in the next track date for your Mustang Club or the regular grudge match session at the local track). Bring your car and money to pay for the run.

Have a nice day."

I print these out 8 at a time on my printer. They work great.

Leave a little space for personalizing the message, especially if its for some euro-trash bmw or ricer. I recently left such a card under the windshield wiper of a 5 series beemer that wanted to race in the middle of Atlanta rush hour traffic with available racing area measured in inches, not feet. I added the following personalization: "In your case, also bring $5000 to wager since it appears you have more money than sense, and I believe that amount will just about cover my bother for blowing this overpriced piece of teutonic trash into the next universe. PLEASE call me at (my number) to verify the reality of this amazing offer. And yes, I have the cash - do you?"

Jerk called and blustered on the phone, swore he'd be there - and never showed, of course. Probably did some research and realized his car probably couldn't compete with a stock 2002 GT, much less my machine.

The nice kid with the Camaro did come (another story), we raced, I won, we talked cars, we paid our fee to the track, and everything was cool. His car should have beaten mine, but he couldn't hook properly and lost the race at the start.

If you do find takers for your offer, you might be surprised what some subtle stuff will do for your chances:

1. Lighten your load (remove everything from speakers to rear seats, depending on how serious you are - avoid removing hard-to-reinstall items, uless truly desperate).

2. Refill the nitrous and make sure its warm enough (careful, of course).

3. Find some drag radials, even if only a loan. (My Mustang Club has several members with extra sets willing to loan them for a good cause to good friends, or at least for a modest rental fee).

4. Get gears. 3.73 at least for 1/4 action.

5. Get tuned. Dyno session time. If you have the money, get a tune for race gas (we buy it from the pump here, but if you can't, or need to drive it daily, retune after the race). Tuning is imperative with nitrous.

6. Practice. Driver skill is often the difference.

Remember this; the key to having the fastest car is going to depend on how Much money you have. That said, I love my CAR for more then just how fast it can go from point A to B. I love the way it sounds when I’m cruising down the road. I love the smoke signals I create when I’m doing burn outs...
Mustangs are a way of life for us with out them we would feel like something is missing. so I say who cares if there are cars faster then ours, but none with the tradition like ours.
