Default My Summer plans...

Once again have been ruined. I wanted to have some weekends off to enjoy the pool, family, friends, etc.

Well, my Boss, has decided to accept a bid from a major car make to build all of their filters, not just some of them, which is the norm, but all of them. My department makes all the injection molded parts for this.

I am officially on 7 days a week for at least all of July. That's just to build up some inventory. ( 60,000) extra parts. Then an additional 18,000 parts a week. Plus what we make to keep the lines running for other makes.. And I'm on 12 hours this week to cover for 1st shift vacation.. July 4th cookout for me is cancelled. And I'm not sure if I can handle 84 hours in 1 week.. then another 56 hours the next week.. I'm thinking this is a bit extreme. Good money but Dam. I hope my lotto numbers hit real soon..

No AC where I'm at. It was 95 in my area all day today. That's not a real problem for me. I try to stay hydrated, plus it's not " in the sun hot". And we got fans blowing.

I have 4 operators assembling my parts after they're made. They're from a temp agency. And they are all dumb as stumps.. LoL. Told my boss I need someone I can train to run injection molding machines. Setups, troubleshooting, etc. Some mechanical skills are required here. Not someone who just lost their food stamp privileges and cant even do simple math.. GEEZ. Sorry bout the rambling and don't mean to offend anyone.. I treat my assemblers with respect, and I try to be patient with their abilities at even the simplest tasks they have to do.. But I can't show you how to keep a machine running if you haven't
any skills at basic machinery.. I'll live through this but I might not be such a nice guy when
I'm on my 3rd week without a day off...

didn't want to start a new thread so.. I just put in 75 hours in the concrete jungle factory I work at. Got paid good money and I might get July 4th weekend off, if I can keep it running at optimal levels all this week. But I'm whooped. Mistakes happen when you have to put in more hours than your used to.

I would advise any of you young people to get a degree in higher education. I started working at this factory when I was 19 with a HS education. I'm 48 now and make a very comfortable wage, but the older I get the harder it is to work like I'm 25 years old.

I got lucky to have a good paying job in a manufacturing workforce because after 29 years I'm the senior mechanic and I can call the shots, but I still have to perform like a man in his 20's. But I gained a lot of knowledge from OTJ training. But these type jobs are going south and I have to stay on my game to keep from being a liability.

Most manufacturing jobs don't want you if your not performing to higher standards of production. I'm under the gun everday to make sure it gets done.

Sorry to ramble, but I'm tired and I think I'm having insomnia too. Off to U-Tube I go.
