lol the uninformed....
check out radartest.com head to head test although its the older model escort not the fancy shmancy gps one your v1 aint so hot after all.....but atleast you got the name!!! V1 was the best maybe 5-10 years ago agreed.

Instant on silly bones thats what gps helps with if your detector goes off your already busted ....many times police tend to sit in the same areas....these areas can be located by the user input into his gps or by online download so even if mr. police man hiding behind a building doesnt have his radar or laser gun on you have initial warning by gps.....your V1 with dual antennas cant do that(no detector can):P By the time your v1 goes off he already has the flashing lights on you.

Also if your area has photo radar or red light cameras gps can locate those as photo radar they shoot you after you pass them not as you approach.

And yes running red lights is a bad idea thats not the point...its not so you can run reds its so you know if the damn thing turns yellow as you approach slam on the brakes dont go through a yellow or you just may get a ticket in the mail.

Its a good detector in a head to head comparison

Heres a couple quotes for those folks that dont want to do the research from radartest.com

"valentine has traditionally dismissed any criticism of its abbreviated list of features, shrugging it off as inconsequential in comparison to its hot performance. And for many years they had a point. The v1 always walked off with best in class x-band and laser sensitivity and often k band as well. But x band sensitivity doesnt matter much today; two of the three biggest radar manufacturers stopped making x band guns except by special order some years back. They list x band in the catalogue only for competitive bidding purposes. And only two state police agencies ohio and new jersey continue to use it in any quantity."

" The valentine1 is a highly sensitive radar detector- good enough that i declared it the winner of my 2000 automobile magazine shootout-- but it is no longer top dog by default. The world has changed since it was designed in 1991."

"valentine seems to be trapped in a time warp. Even the owners manual reflects 80s thinking, replete with wildly outdated statements such as x band is most common for moving and stationary radar. Huh? 48 of the 50 highway state patrols abandoned it years ago."

"The v1 is unique in having a metal case rather then the usual plastic, not necessarily the optimal choice in hot southern climates, as i discovered in a more recent test."

"Other then now being housed in the old case and having received occasional subassembly replacements and some software tweaks -improved ka band sensitivity and the adition of ku band were amoung the most recent -it has remained largely unchanged since george bush (not dubya we are talking the first george bush here) spent his last year in the white house. With a detectors lifespan averaging 18 months these days, as the most expensive unit tested, the V1 would have to offer a dazzling array of virtues and world- class performance to make the cut against the far more modern contenders in this test."

"In urban areas the directional arrows where often hyperactive, alerting to every door opener in the neighbourhood with the bogey counter (able to display up to 9 simultaneous signals and indicate which is strongest) frequent warning of 3 or more simultaneous threats comming from different quadrants of the compass. Many of these where x and k band door openers and local oscillators from passing radar detectors."

However v1 is rated as best laser detection.

I dont know what they use where everyone lives but here where i live its 95% Ka band 5% laser k and x= false alarm, so i turned them off.

Not uninformed, just don't see why GPS would be of any use. What if you set it for where a cop is and then he moves? Instant on? how about a detector that just doesn't turn off? I also like how they read an old manual from the 80's and then say the V1 is trapped in the past. My manual clearly states that hardly anybody uses x. Also if you think V1 is too sensitive then that is user error. I get 0 false alarms. GPS sounds like a nice way for cops to move around and trick your detector. YOu go ahead and use the GPS, I'll just use my brain. You keep your fancy half-assed detector and i'll keep my military grade one. I wouldn't use any other detector even if you paid me

The GPS thing actually is very nice but completenewb you are kind of inaccurate in some of your statements. The GPS feature is yes mostly to program speed traps however the main function of it is to tell you what speed you are going. The second that a radar hits you the detector tells you what the speed is that you are going and then a voice tells you what radar band hit you. Thats the only thing I like about the GPS is the accurate speed identification, and the ability to block a false alarm by GPS coordinates. The speed trap thing to me is useless if you know you are in a speed trap area... just DON'T speed haha.

Also that statement of the second your radar goes off the cop has your speed thats not true if your right in front of him yes but if he has his radar on and you get a week signal of 1 or 2 bars no the cop does not have your speed

haha it must be beeping all the time if your picking it up after you pass the automatic door still picking it up:P Fob counter tells you if its fake yes but my point is it still beeps!
I just turn off those false alarms and dont need a fob counter but thats just my preferance i guess..
Before i turned off the automatic doors my girlfriend would rip my detector out of the plug in bc it would beep for no reason just like the v1 would.

Cops usually sit in the same areas atleast here they do except the ones driving down the street....

It has gps as well man....its an add on built in not only a gps that doesnt detect sigh

Instant on laser if cop has you targeted and you dont get "splash" (splash is like a garden hose hitting an object if you pick up overspray your safe--if they hit you direct your done) on your car/detector you have about 0.05 seconds from detection to have your speed down. Laser is fast man --- If he has it on for hours just picking targets sure you pick them up before he gets you but if he targets you and hits with first try turning it on....No radar detector will help if your going 10 over the speed limit by the time your ears hear the beep and send the signal to your foot to brake he already has your speed....

Just wish it was more a discussion then an argument if you could show me tests comparisons like i have instead of just "your wrong" my metal case and fob counter rocks! I prefer false alarms to not even beep to not even have to check if its fake or real id rather know its real or fake if it beeps its real.

Lets agree to disagree on this nobody is getting anywhere on the discussion, really.

The guy asked if he bought a good detector i am saying yes. Your saying no both of us are entitled to our opinions bc thats what the guy wants anyways.

Have a good day thanks for the discussion.

Here is what i was saying Instant on if its a direct hit on you and your leader of the pack or only one on road you have little to no warning..

"Instant-on" radar and laser

One technique can be hard to defend against, the so-called "Instant- on." Here, the radar or laser unit is in a stand-by mode until a vehicle approaches. It is not emitting a beam - so your detector can't find it. Then, when you are within range, the operator switches the unit on and it calculates your speed within one second. A good radar detector protects you by warning you when the operator "zaps" one of the cars up ahead. (splash pick up not direct hit)The detector has to be sensitive enough to pick up these brief, weak signals. And reliable enough so you don't interpret them as random false alarms and ignore them.

Moving Radar - Limited Range/Warning
In their efforts to increase revenue and "trap" motorists with radar detectors, the police use "instant on" more frequently than in the past. With instant on, the officer leaves the gun in a standby mode and there is nothing to detect until the officer physically pulls the trigger to clock the speed of the target vehicle. If you are the leader of the pack or the only one on the road and they tag you with instant on, there may be no advance warning at all. With instant on, you are counting on them tagging someone ahead of you. This is why detectors with the longest range are important. You may hear your detector giving brief, weak bursts as an alert that might seem to be a false signal. This is a perfect example of instant on radar being used ahead of you, and should be a signal for caution.

The other possibility involves "mobile radar" and instant on. So radar can be used in a moving patrol car, they use a separate, low powered radar gun underneath the patrol car aimed at the road to clock the speed of the patrol car. This is a very weak signal and is difficult to detect because it is aimed down at the road instead of in the direction of oncoming traffic. When the patrol car wants to clock the speed of a target vehicle, they use the stronger radar gun you may see mounted on the dash.

Stationary Alerts - X or K
The GPS-powered, TrueLock™ feature of our Passport 9500i allows you to simply press the mute button a couple of times to permanently reject a signal. Our patented design captures the exact location coordinates and the exact frequency of the signal and stores them in memory. Once stored, TrueLock™ will reject these signals, but is intelligent enough to warn you of a different signal in that same location

There you go sorry for my miss information on gps i apologize i got it confused with a gps unit that tells you where red light cameras and photo radar sights are and distance to target....these are legal where radar detectors are not (navalert) and database can be downloaded.

http://ezinearticles.com/?How-The-Ra...Work&id=302461
( he makes a little error here though hes talking about light but calls it radar which is actually laser hes talking about)

When investing in a radar detector you have a couple options available. You used to only be able to get radar detectors that alerted you when it sensed the radio waves from the police officers radar. Now you can purchase detectors that also have a light sensitive panel that will detect the laser radar that is becoming more popular. The only problem is that since the beam of light (laser)the police officers use is so focused even with a detector it is still easy to get caught speeding. By the time your radar detects the light from the officer's radar you are already in the sight of his radar(laser) and thus already busted.

Once again thats assuming direct hit...Spray off another car will give you warning of laser

Navalert (whole nother story)

GPS based Speed Camera and Red Light Alert System
Simple lighter plug installation, alerts to every type of Red Light and and Speed Camera in the USA and Canada, utilizing SIRF GPS technology.
The NavAlert speed camera detector can store around 150,000 positions in its database. All cameras in North America covered. The speed camera locations can be divided into different data sets, to distinguish between such positions as fixed speed cameras, possible mobile camera positions, red light cameras, schools, and high collision areas.

While driving normally it will display the current speed. When a warning is triggered, a chime is heard followed by an announcement such as "camera ahead limit 60". The speed limit at the camera site will flash before going back to displaying the vehicle's speed. This will typically happen at 500 meters from the camera position, . A second chime is heard at 200 yards from the camera site, and if the vehicle is still over the speed limit, a continuous warning is heard "reduce speed" + warning sound until the vehicle speed drops to the speed limit, or the camera site is passed at which time an all clear chime is heard.

Alerts To Every type of Red Light Speed Camera in USA and Canada

GPS data via usb can supply your laptop or cellphone GPS NMEA data

FeaturesThe detector will give an over-speed warning in close proximity to the camera if exceeding the speed limit, but will automatically mute when within the speed limit, The driver is advised of only cameras on the road they are driving along, thereby negating false alerts, The driver is advised as they approach high collision areas, GPS speedometer, Announces close proximity to schools Monday - Friday 08:00 - 5:00, Displays the current location as Latitude and Longitude, which can be relayed to the emergency services or breakdown authorities.

My apologies for miss information about gps i had a navalert cross over
But after making about 20 points 1 wrong is not a bad average.

Ok enough of this debate about radar /laser detectors and how they work

If you seriously want to know just look it up guys. I can post information that i find in direct tests online all day and post how i researched things work and people will disagree...hey we are human.

Just google it !

I was just posting an opinion and it turned into a chore defending my points every day

The original poster never asked how laser works how radar works detection range or if a valentine1 or brand x is better.... We got waay out of focus.

Anyways have a good day.
Now back to watchin my stocks!
