The one thing I'm very glad I did when I bought my laptop, is upgrade from 1GB ram to 2GB ram. I recommend the same thing, especially with the new Vista

first off... avoid vista. youll want to have windows xp media center if you want to interact with your xbox. basically youll have to allow everything vista does because of its "security" features. i know you like hi-fi home entertainment so you can forget hooking up your home theater setup to the computer if you have vista because it wont recognize it. again... stay with XP media center.

photoshop doesnt take much to run. youll be fine with anything you get to run photoshop. with video editing, youll want a good videocard like that nvidia and lots of ram. youll need hd space if you want to hold videos and music, and 250gb is more than enough for the normal user. ive got 500gb and im nowhere near filling it up and ive got over 300 albums on the computer.

ive always been an AMD fan, so id chose that, or just the fast intel. you wont need dual processors unless you do serious multitasking like transfering huge files from HD to HD, video editing, running photoshop, ect..

just my , but if you have a grand to spend you could build yourself a wicked pc that would would list for around $1500-$1800. best of all, its what you want in it. check out newegg.com they have every component you would need, plus building a pc is not really that hard. as far as brands go i'm an AMD and Nividia guy myself, biggest thing is get as much RAM as you can fit and a good sized hard drive. also if you go the self-build route dont skimp on the power supply get a top quality one, i have a volcano by raidmax and it comes with detachable "danglies" as i call them. so i can configure my power supply for things i need it for and dont plug in cords for stuff i dont need or have installed. one more thing, and perhaps the most over looked is cooling, the more fans the cooler it runs and the cooler it runs the better it runs. many factory pc's are made to be quite and the expense of cooling so if you can add fans....do it.

Stay away from Windows Vista for the time being.. requires way too many resources, as too many holes, ***** going to go wrong with it for about a year, like every other microsoft thing that comes out..after a year, the bugs will hopefully be fixed.

As for graphics cards...

nVidia Geforce or ATI Raedon is the way to go..

Processors: Intel Core Duo.. Intel didn't get their **** together till then. AMD is good, but right now, they aren't putting up much competition against Intel

Dell is good for a factory computer but if I were you, I'd have your own built..

I gave myself a rough estimate for a decent computer for me to build..it was around $800.. however this was before the Dual Processors came out.

RAM: if you go with Vista, I'd probably get like 2 gigs of ram

Hard Drive: 80 gigs isn't bad, depending on what you want.
