Good write up on heater core replacement?
ANyone know a good site for a "how to" on replacing the heater core? Actually, need it more for how to get the dash out. I froze my ***** off this morning on the way to work, so I am laying out tomorrow to get it replaced. I found some sites on how to do it on foxes but none on the 99-04?

don't know of any write-ups but I do have a tip to pass-on.
ever since FoMoCo went to all aluminum heater cores @1998 (they use tobe copper/brass) we have seen tons of failures, now the reason is electrolysis and to counter this problem, you'll need to solder a wire to the NEW heater core, and attach it to the engine block as a ground.

hanyes manual or a chiltons manual. They have detail on how to do every thing on your car. If you ever do your own work (this goes to anyone and any car) get one of those books. They are a life saver and have step by step instruction on how to do basicly everything.

Madmatts Heater Core How-To
1. Take car to shop
2. Let them deal with the bullcrap involved in this horrible job.
Like Randy said, solder a wire for the electrolysis. You will have to pull the center console, the dash, the heaterbox, the shift bezel, and its a BITCH and a half, let me tell you. And Ford, those sons of bitches, the two heater hoses have those annoying little squeeze type clamps, well, Ford decided to put mine on with the SQUEEZE CLAMPS TURNED DOWN! WTF IS WRONG WITH THEM!!! My dad and I spend over an hour getting that ONE clamp off...It took my dad all day working on it, then when I got home from work, we worked for about 5 more hours. All in all, Id say we had 12 hours in it, but that included going to the store/other BS problems that came up. If mine goes out again, I am seriously getting a price quote from someone, although, knowing what all needs to be done, Id say we could do it in half the time, esp. since we shitcanned those stupid squeeze clamp. Easily the worst thing you'll ever do to your car, and there is no performance benefit either lol.

That's what I ended up doing. After spendin 4 hours finding what else was holding the dash on (had already removed most of everything) my dad called his friend and he said he would finish it up for me for $100. So, as of now my car is in the shop getting the work done. And for a hundred bucks I didn't hesitate on that one!

OMG! I would have KILLED to find someone to do it for 100 bucks. They are taking a HUGE loss on that job...lol. Holy crap, you = luckiest guy on earth. HOWEVER, make SURE you do what Randy said to do with the lines grounded to the block.

Yeah, they are going to do that. AS far as the price, the mechanic who is doing is is a good friend of my dad's. He's one of those where he has workers in his shop, but when me or my dad bring our car in HE is the only one who will touch them. When my dad called him to ask him about how to get the dash out (after I had all I could get out, out). He just told us, it's a pain in the *** and if you haven't done it before you can really mess something up. So, just bring it to me how you have it now and I'll finish it up for you for $100. So, I just reconnected the speed-o and drove it to him. Since I already had all the panels, radio, glove box, etc out he said it would be cheap. But, I agree, $100 is still a hell of a deal! I got really lucky!
