You guys should read my blog on my myspace.
And when you realize that God is the surpreme being that created the universe in its entirety and gave us life and ALSO gave us the salvation of Jesus, you'd want to worship Him too. He is creator of all, he deserves to be worshipped. Pageans(Yes, that is non-religious peoples' official classifications) can't be expected to understand christian beliefs.
That's all I'm going to say because these threads get so dang long and I come back 6 hours and I hafta read 5 pages worth of posts so it's never worth it.

I don't see why people have such a hard time doing what the bible says. Even if it was 100% man, it has some awesome advice to adhere to and make anyone's life a ton easier. I have a great blog about it on myspace that nobody can argue against

The bible says a lot. the bible talks about stoning yer wife and crap, it talks about stoning homosexuals, ant it dont mean getting them high.
i mean, which testament should we listen to? which should we ignore? which parts are written figurativly and which parts literally?
the bible wasnt exactly plopped down in front of man already written, there have been many many authors that put in thier parts. not to mention it has been translated many times. There might have been inaccuracys in the translations. Just seems a bit flakey to me.
Aint saying that you shouldnt adhere to the bible if you believe in it, but part of my lack of personal faith is with all the contradictions and the absolute lack of evidence that god created everything. I mean, 7 days? really? where is the proof? there is overwhelming evidance that the world is billions of years old. All we got on the creation side is a book wirtten by many people translated repeatedly that expects us to take part of it metaphorically and part of it literally with no real line drawn.
the bible has good stuff in it, it has good lessons about morality and ethics, but i personally just dont find anything credible in it.
Rather than be TOLD to believe, i would rather have all the facts laid out before me so i can make an informed choice. After all, if the jews and christ was just a prophet, well, all the christians and catholics who pray to jesus are going to hell for worshiping somone other than god.
thats a big gamble if you ask me.

i certainly havent read it cover to cover, i went to church with my grandparents when i was a kid. they were pretty religious.
i dont see anything wrong with religion, but i refuse to just have blind faith. the bible is not "evidence" of anything. its a book. maybe it is right, or maybe it isnt. Personally, i put more faith in science and understanding. I believe it is a good thing to question things. Even if the answers are not what you want to hear

There are just way too many thing in the Bible that are dis-proved by cold hard facts.
So, I dont believe in God or Heaven or Hell.
I was raised Methodist...went to church all my life till I was 18. Did Bible camp/school/study....the whole bit.

I have a hard time believing that someone read the bible cover to cover, understood it all, and still doesn't believe it. Nobody in their right mind would read a book that enormous and get nothing out of it.
Oh, and what "cold hard facts" of science disprive stuff in the bible?

Lol... i read the Sword of Truth novels, about 800 pages each, 10 out in the sieres so far.
Uhh, physics, geology and mathematics prove that the world was not created in 7 days
knowledge of genetics proves a breeding population 2 people is not a large enough genetic pool for a species of life to maintain.
so.. you really believe eve was made from adams rib? and they did eachother and had kids, and those kids did eachother? i mean... isnt there anything in the bible against incest?
Also noah's arc... you mean to tell me he put 2 of every animal on a boat for what was it, 40 days and 40 nights? how the hell could he possible fit one of each animal on the boat? the time line is way way way too short for the introduction of new species so everything would have to be on the boat, plus, once again, the genetic pool would be so limited that they would not be able to breed out viable populations.
i mean also, all the miracles done by jesus are done almost every day by con-men, magicians, and grifters.
plus look at some of the rules they lay out. Thou shal not covet thier neighbors wife. Well... ya know what, if she is hot, yer gona covet her. that does not mean you will act upon it, but the coveteth will cometh none the less. lol......
has there been any science to actually prove the existance of god? or of jesus's miracles? or any of that?
not trying to get on ya here ya know, but you asked... i still respect yer beliefs, but if you offer the opportunity to question, ill take it because it is a great way to learn more about various subjects and i find the one of religion extremly fascinating.

I found this, i dont know weather or not these contradictions are correct, so i wont say this is any proof, but those who know the bible can probably understand what the author was getting at better than i can and report to the validity of the bible's claims.

In the Genesis 1 account of creation, the earth precedes the sun and the stars. The ‘big-bang’ theory requires that the sun predate the earth.
Genesis states that birds and fish (including sea-dwelling mammals) were created on day five, with mammals, reptiles, insects and, ultimately, humans, on day six. This is inconsistent with evolutionary timelines, which would require, for one thing, the whales to come after the land-dwelling mammals.
The Bible specifically mentions whales on day five.
The Bible states, not only in Genesis but also in the New Testament, that sin (and subsequently death) entered the world through Adam. Millions of years of evolution would require eons of natural selection, i.e. death of the weaker, predating Adam.
Genesis three contains an account of Adam’s fall from grace through sin. The entire Gospel hinges on this event, because without Adam’s sin there is no need for redemption. The denial of Genesis 3 invariably results in severe dilution of the purpose for Jesus coming to the earth.
Jesus and many, if not all, of the Apostles believed in Genesis 1-3 as a literal account of the natural history of the world. This is clear from their teachings. If we believe John 1, where it is stated that Jesus was there at the creation of the world, how is it that He had forgotten what actually transpired?
Genesis, read in isolation of all other sources, clearly intends to be taken literally. It is only extra-biblical sources that cause men to doubt the validity of its record. Do Christians believe that the Bible is superior, equal or inferior to scientific opinion? If it is superior, science should be interpreted in light of the Scriptures. Conversely, if it is inferior then the Bible should be interpreted in light of science.
The authority of the Bible is the basis for Judeo-Christian values, morals and ethics. The reasons behind most of these are laid out for us in Genesis. If we call into question the validity of Genesis, Christians have no basis on which to ground their morality. Genesis contains the very foundations of the Christian faith, including its moral teachings. Without a foundation, the faith will crumble. It is inevitable because the foundation holds the entire structure in place.
And finally, the big one: evolution was invented as a means to explain the existence of life, earth and the universe without the existence of a Creator. The entire theory was devised as a way to write God out of the equation. It was formulated and subsequently developed by men who were determined to deliberately ignore any sign of the Creator’s hand in nature. All of evolution’s pretexts are humanistic. If we then try to insert God back into this godless philosophy, he does not fit because He has been systematically discounted from the outset.
