Default sad day for financial aid :(

So this is my last year of college.. the past 3 years I have qualified for financial aid that I did not have to pay back, it paid all my tutition and my books and I got what was left over. I didnt' qualify this year I didn't even qualify for any money at all I'm pretty sad. I mean I'm thankful for getting it for 3 years.. but I just cant' believe I didn't get any AT ALL. So now I have to find a way to pay my tutition and books by August 1st... I think the college will let me setup some payment plans with them though, I'm going to double check to be sure. I was pretty worried that I might not get to attend and it's my LAST YEAR. I guess I'm just shocked that I didn't get any money at all. I expected a decrease for sure, but wow. Glad I didn't buy a new rearend for my car yet

Thats weird, How could you not get any money at all? Hope they dont do this to me. i still have to pay a buttload of money out of my pocket.

There are a bunch of private student loan places you can get money through, you dont have to pay back until 6 months after graduation.

i was lookin at their site a little.. did you have to pay interest on yours? i'm pretty sure im just going to go this route instead of doing the payments directly to the college.

i just did some quick reading, and i read that it is 4.7% while your in school. then durring repayment its like 6.1%. but at least you wont have to pay anything while you are in school.

Yep, im already 30,000 in debt for school but i look at it this way, I dont have to pay back anything while in school, I can use the money for anything, and after school the payments are not very hard to keep up with if you have good job (witch is why people go to school) and its not like a car loan where its over 5 years, some private loans are over 10-20 years.

but when it comes down to it, it all worth it whjen you have a degree and a good Job.

i think i figured out why I lost my financial aid. i looked over it and thought about what else changed since last year.. andt hen I realized last year my mom didn't claim me on my taxes, this year she did. because she claimed me on my taxes it causes me to OWE the government money when i was gonna be getting a couple hundred back.. I dunno if it's really the reason or not, but oh well.

Man I'm glad I got my GI Bill and NCSU is only a couple grand a semester. That really does suck though. Especially as a Senior. Stick it out with the loans, you're just too damn close to let money get in the way now. Good luck.

Christie:

This is why people should have a qualified CPA do their taxes. I guarentee if you had the right CPA take care of your taxes as well as your mom's this could have been avoided. A good tax accountant will always look at the "total liability" created by taxes and they will take into account situations like financial aide as well as a lot of other issues.

As far as dealing with it now, you have two options. 1 - Either get loans or 2 - wait two years, get yourself off as a dependant from you mom and try again.

Best option is #1. Get college done, PERIOD. Don't waste time. Just get loans or whatever it takes. Debt for college is no big deal. Hopefully you are going to a good school and have a workable major. If so, you will make a lot more money in the long-run then if you do not get your degree.

Was he/she a CPA or just an H&R Blockhead type person?

Reagardless, he still could have given you the best advice, even if you don't liek the outcome.

You should consider yourself lucky to get 3 years of college and everything that goes with that for free that you dont have to pay back.

You are going to be better off than most people who get done with school I guarantee my fiance will switch you school loans.

so the stafford loan people emailed me and siad they needed more information and for me to call them. so i called them this morning and they said my signature on the form i mailed in wasn't legible so they needed a copy of my drivers license or social security card.. well my drivers license was signed when i was 16 and my social security card was signed when i was 10, so my signatures dont look hardly anything like either becuase i sign like 50 pages a day at work, so its a lot more sloppy now. i told them that and they got all rude with me.. i was like wtf. she said to go ahead and send in my drivers license and they'll decided whether or not its the same signature. lol so yeah, im going to renew my drivers license today. i needed to renew anyways, mine still says "under 21" really big on the sides and maeks it hard to get into bars. bleh, sucks though cuz i have to miss work.
