Insurance for me..??
Hey guys, im looking into 99-04 GT, and wanted to know some ballpark insurance (or if you have experience that is even better). I'm 17, 18 in november, and have a clean record, no tickets or anything. What will insurance be for me if i purchase a 99-04 gt, and will it be a lot lower if i decided on pre 1999?

thats pretty low for 20. well my dad drives a bonneville ssei right now, and i drive it as well and my insurance is under his name or account and what not. id assume it will stay that way, but the car will be under my name since i will be paying. i really want some muscle so all those honda bastards shouting about their vtech will shut up (sorry for the rice comment) - but the only thing holding me back is insurance costs that could be too high..

I am 21 with a 96 GT and mine is around $75 a month, full coverage. That is with a perfect driving record and having my own insurance since day 1. Hope that gives you an idea.
BTW, my insurance is with State Farm. Definitely do your research to find the best rates for you, based on the desired coverage. Each company will vary.

That's true you do need to call around first. hopefully your not under your parents then they will see you as being never insured. or try to stay under your parents. A friend got insurance on his own, he's 21, they saw him as never insured and quoted 400 a month, clean driving record, for a 04 V6, i think he found a place for 250 a month. full coverage for me is 50 bucks a month but i'm 27. when i had my 95 GT and 03 lightning, i was 25 and paid about 150 a month full coverage. also i have tons of speeding tickets, how many count on my record, i'm not sure. speeding is bad...yeah. i would call around.

Just do a quote. There is no such thing as a ballpark. Your rate will be different from what anyone else would pay due to variances in location, vehicle, credit, driving history, age, how long they've had insurance, etc. You can't rely on what any one else pays for insurance because it won't help you. You could live two streets over and have a rate that is double from your neighbors.

bingo... get a quote. Any ballpark number is going to be wrong. expect to pay a bloody fortune until you hit 26+ years old. Also it helps to live in a rural county with a low history of weather related damage.

Your insurance is going to depend on your location also. Some insurance companies will not even insure vehicles in certain states. Being you're only 18 though, they're gonna hit you with the "inexperienced driver". I pay $160 for a 2002 Mustang GT (full coverage), 94 Mustang V6 (liability only) and a 2002 CBR 954RR. So it's not too bad for me, I'm 23.

I hate that about insurance companies....in Cali they do it by zip code....I moved from one zip code to another and my insurance went down $15 a month.....they should base it on age, experience and driving record ONLY. And yes car insurance is basically legal financial rape!

w00t! it's cheaper in Livermore than in Pleasanton and cheaper in Pleasanton than in Dublin. They're all the same damned town for God's sake. The only thing that makes them different is the spelling. You can stand in one and throw a rock and hit the others (from exactly 1 spot but still).
California insurance commissioners have long been on the payroll of the insurance lobby. State govt are the ones responsible for setting up regulations on how you can assign risk and they've been doing their level best to rape the common folk so they can line their pockets wtih laundered PAC money a-la Tom DeLay. Bunch of ****** crooks. The insurance companies are too greedy to see that the most profit isn't always the most intelligent way of doing things. If they'd assign risk fairly, then more people would sign up for coverage above their needs and spend the extra few bucks willingly, instead of bitchin about it like me and you.

Governor say if he is elected he will go after the insurance companies and try to eliminate the zip code thing.....but he was the freaking insurance commissioner and couldn't get it done so why could he get it done as Lt. What we need is for someone that understands the insurance industry to make some enemies, **** off some of the electorate and actually get some reform made instead of hiding sweetheart deals in legal jargon and then codifying it.
If we can get a candidate with support from SEMA and the motorsports industry, we'll have someone with a vested interest in making insurance actually insure against loss rather then ensuring loss to the consumer. Such a candidate would be the target of huge misinformation and smear campaigns by the insurance lobby but would almost certainly have wide public support and would be able to be elected. Who's with me? Let's start a 50 state revolt against insurance industry mis-deeds and price gouging.
