Default Speeding Ticket....advice

Anyone have any advice for me regarding a speeding ticket I got. I got an 86 in a 55. I have no prior tickets or any other criminal record. Should I get a lawyer? What type of punishment am I looking at. Thanks for any help.

TAKE THE DRIVING CLASS!!!!!

no matter how tedious/boring it is, it will clear your record and you will even get a discount on the ticket. I know because I had nearly the same incident..82 in a 55 and after taking the class, no insurance raise. But you have to wait a year before being able to take it again, and only 5 times in your lifetime.

You can get out of it and best thing to do is get a lawyer as they know all the loop holes etc.

Ther is no such thing as getting out of it. One way or the other you are going to pay.

1. Take the DD (Defensive Driving) class before you have to go to court
2. Talk to a lawyer, none will talk over the phone, so get your weeping butt off the sofa and do some hunting. Initial confrence's should be free, dont give them money up front and dont agree to using them.
3. Stop Speeding - Never go over 19 over the speed limit, unless you know that no-one is around.
4. Be prepared to dish out some mulah, even though it is your first ticket, you might not be let off the hook, depends on the judge, where you live and how strict they are. In virginia beach here, they usually let first time offenders go pretty much scotch free. 20 miles away in chesapeake they throw the book at you. Be careful. This is a serious matter.

Should of paid 400 dollars for a valentine 1 so you could avoid situations like that, like I did. No speeding tickets on my record.
I know whats coming from where.

Always take it to court, Dont ever take the plea, 20 over like you have would get a suspension in my state. So id get a lawyer and try and get a plea and get it lowered. Ive had 36 points at one point on my licence and still had my license, I finally ended up gettin suspended. 3 times total in my life. Ive not had a ticket in 8 years now. Of course i havnt had a mustang in 8 years till now either.

get some 4.10 Gears and you wont rock down the highway at 80mph +, it was so easy to run 80mph plus with the original gears in my car when i first got it. The other benifit no one says with getting 4.10 gears is it makes you keep your RPMS down and not scream down the highway like before.

I remember a Capri i had with a 351 windsor and 295/60s on the back, 2.73 gears. I used to tach 1250 RPMS @ 60mph!!! I use to run 90 mph all the time so it wasnt feeling like it was bogging down.

Defensive Driving: would be your best bet you have to pay the ticket plus the course
Civil Penalty: That would be your plea before the judge all you have to do is play the ticket and it will be off your record
Probation: 6 month probation pay the ticket plus charge for the probation the catch is you can not get caught or both tickets will go on your record
and No Content: your Neither Innocent nor Guilty right between
Only reason I know is cause I tried them

one more note. Go to DMV and get your driving record, since you dont have any tickets you will need the proof. looks good for you if you have it.

Get you speedo calibrated, most shops for a little extra cash will say that it was off by a few miles.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I'm definitely going to look into doing all the things you guys suggest.

To find out about the policemans paperwork and radar calibration papers, do I just ask to see that on the day in court?

first of all what state are you from, the laws differ from state to state. in ny 20mph over the speed limit is 11 points on your license and you need a lawyer.(it happen to me) more people can help you from your area if you give us more info. by the way i have a v1, exellent investment. my lawyer brought up calibration, that was useless they are always calibrated by the department and if not prove it was off. also the heater fan in the car throws off the radar but the judge didnt want to hear that either. my judge was a lady. bring a lawyer b/c thats what the courts want to see. i got 11 point on my license for 18 months but the court didnt tell my insurence company and my insurence never went up. oh by the way your driving record is right in front of the judge on there computer. we postponned the case 3 times and the judge said since my record is clean before the ticket and after the ticket i had to pay $375 for speeding and the lawyer was $500. my ticket was 76 in a 20. school zone at night off the highway.

You should pay the ticket, go to traffic school, and slow down next time.

You know you broke the law.

call up and have ur court date rescheduled. tell them its a family emergency or something like that. do that like 1 or 2 times and most of the time the cop wont show up. i know like 10 people who have done this and it worked.

don teven bother getting the cops training records thats a waste of your time. try to reschedule if your in maryland you will have to write a letter depending on the county i didnt know that till a week before my court date and i had to go thankfully he didnt show up cuz it was a agressive driving ticket $$$$. radars they calibrate on the spot and are vehicle specific dont know much about lasers. did you ask to see the radar gun or the laser? some states its a law for you to look at your clocked speed. some cops will see that your going 120 but lock you in at 80 but still give you a ticket for 120 its happend to me but i won that case that was back in california though its different out here in the east coast. go to google and search "beating speeding tickets" lots of info there
