A guy quoted me 1200 for gear installation...
yeah...I know. no need to tell me how nuts that is, and i will NOT pay it, but he also was like "well gears themself cost 3-400" and I kept thinkin about mt's that cost under $200, and I kept assuring him that i mean strictly rear end gears like 373 or 410 and her persisted.
Now, granted this is a ford dealership...but what should I realistically pay for the installation labor of putting gears in. The guy told me its a 5-6 hr deal...but..is it really?

4 hours for install.......240.00 4hrs@60 bucks
gear oil..................8.00
Pinion Bearing.........22.00
friction modifier.......5.00
Total after tax........277.71 + approx 200 for the gears
approx 475.00 and well worth it.

Yeah, actually, it is very common for mechanics to take advantage of women who come in wanting work done. Maybe you should get a male friend to come with you, i wouldnt be suprised if he quotes you a lot less.

I bought my gears here and had them installed at a Mustang only performance shop (CJ Pony). I consider their work completely professional and all they do are stangs. The total job was around $500. I have heard of some places charging $1000 and I know of some guys that have done the whole thing for $300.
