Default awful mpg, whats the deal?

lately, with the mods listed below, i have been getting crap gas mileage, i drive mostly with a light touch, but like us all, i cant help but punch it and race it once and awhile. this last tank of gas only got me 200 miles, i've seen that my tank size is 15-15.5 gallons big, divide that out, i have an amazing 13.33 mpg! wtf is up with that? you hear of GT and CObra going at least over 20 mpg...what could be causing this crappy mpg?

Thumbs down

Do you do alot of city driving or highway driving. My car gets good gas mileage on the highway, but city driving wreaks havoc on my wallet.

well if you started getting crappy gas mileage after putting the 3.73 in then thats the reason.

3.73's do not give you bad gas mileage, you might see a 3-5 MPG loss if that..

4.10s only lost me abotu 1-2

but yeah city driving really sucks compared to highway

ex. I drove down to PPIR from northern CS with a full tank, got home, had just below a full tank, drove to the movies the same day, thru town, went down to a quarter tank

i used to get 200 in the city, and 300 on the highway

havent checked with the gears. gas is too much to be putting a full tank in.

If you don't do alot of highway driving they don't give you as bad gas mileage.

that makes no sense what so ever

unless you drive a hybrid car, our cars get really good highway gas milage, gears might reduce your highay mpg a little, but your highway mpg is still 10x better (exaguration) than your city mpg

I meant as bad of gas mileage..but why wouldn't you get worse mpg? explain to me..He asked why he is getting worse mpg now and asked if it could be because 1 of the mods he has done to his car below..I simply stated it could be because of the 3:73..which is true you get worse gas mileage..I never said howmuch so lets chill out?

here is what you ORIGIANALLY said

"If you don't do alot of highway driving they don't give you bad gas mileage."

now read that, carefully.

you are saying if you dont drive on the high way you wont get bad gas milage, even though, gears or not your highway mpg is still better than city mpg

gears increase gas milage on the high way and city equally. Gears increase your highway cruising rpm which yes decreases gas milage, but so does driving around town with them, but even with 4.10s its minimal so 3.73s would have only a minimal effect if ANY

Gears can only increase it if you are keeping your foot out of the box and are getting in to 5th gear quickly. Otherwise, you might lose more gas mileage than you gain.

Colorado, next time you fill your car up, take notice to how much gas you actually put in your car. I have NEVER used all 15.5 gallons of gas that supposedly fit in my tank. I usually put in about 12.5 gallons, which works out to about 17 mpg on 200 miles a tank. Dont get worried, your car isnt broken.

I own a stock 98 GT 37,000 miles, and this is what I get, 26 highway...15 city....20 on decent 40/50mph roads. I checked all 3 on a vacation trip to Maine...... Ct. to Maine, cruise set to 70 got me the 26 mpg....driving the backroads (40 -50 mph no stop and go) 20 mpg...around my town, back and forth to work, etc. 15 mpg... When I bought this car from the original owner, he still had the window sticker. It says 17 city/23 highway.

true true

best tank i ever had was 19 mpg, with gears! i do do a lot of h/w driving at least 90 miles a week (20 mi round trip to work all highway)

i dont know, my dad works for Conoco as said it could be the higher ratio of ethanol, the crap gas companies are cutting gas with, he said it reduces mpg...

i dont know what going on, everything runs fine, no leaks or smells. i just filled up on Sat. have been 124.3 miles and i have just over a 1/4 tank!
