SCT Tuner

SCT Tuner
I have been debating on getting a SCT tuner with the free Bama tunes.
I have a few questions, I know it hold 3 tunes. I drive 70 miles a day and I could really use and economy tune. You think they could set me up with a tune that would increase my gas mileage?
Im guessing you can call them up and specify what tunes you desire and they will tailor them to your needs correct?

Yes they can. They will tune it for a leaner a/f ratio at part throttle driving to help the mpg out alot. I have a 87 economy tune, 93 n/a race tune, and 93 Nitrous race tune.
The 87 gets around 1mpg better on the highway then either 93 tune. though the 93 seems to be about the same in the city. Of course mine is from VMPtuning.com and not from AM.com

When I recently called to get a retune, they told me that they don't do economy tunes anymore. He said they will tune it just like how spike said.
They will tune it so that at part throttle (crusing) the mileage will be a lot better. But the power will still be there if you need it (WOT).

your supposed to tell them what mods you have etc. If you get new mods you should get it retuned. Its free anyways. They took into account my tire size and my other mods.

CAI makes all the difference and even with no mods you can still use a Chip/Tuner to get the full potenial out of your vechile. If that makes sense.
#11
CAI makes NO or very little (definitely not "all the") diifference on a stock 2 valve
#12
But Must See, how do you like the tune? Kind of curious to get some first hand knowledge as to how you like it.
#13
I still believe it does something otherwise people wouldn't be buying something pointless.
#15
You're telling me that a Cold Air Intake or Ram Intake (whatever) will do NOTHING (0%) to your vechile?
I find that very hard to believe. I'm not saying it will make all the difference power wise or anything, but making all the difference over stack with a Tuner/Chip.
I'm probably wrong, but then again I may not be, this is what I think.

it's been well documented many times that on a stock 2-valve a CAI does either one of two things
1. nearly nothing
2. absolutely nothing
stock with a tuner/chip will be much better than stock with CAI/RAI
the people that claim big hp increases for cai on stock 2 valves are the same people who are SELLING the cai
search/research

I haven't really done much research on it, because all I read is the comments on AmericanMuscle about it. Then I have friends who bought them, but they don't own Mustangs.

Now I think about it, it has been with A LOT of cars. As well a different sound comes along with a RAI/CAI.
#21
Few people wanted to see if the Cold Air Intake made a difference. I saw proof, but I don't have proof and every vechile is different. I do know that it makes the car sound nicer/better or whatever.
It might be different for every car, what kind of CAI/RAI you get, ect..

I have seen ram air differences on other cars, but those are older muscle cars. My dad's cutlass had a ram air hood (the 442 hood for those that know). It weighs way more but he picked up .02 from it. My K&N gave me about a half a tenth comparing similar weather the few times I ran it
Thats factory air w/o silencer too

I want to get a CAI/RAI because of a cleaner look and from what American Muscle Customer Comments say it does help. Mainly just for better looks and a sound differnce.

Yeah I have a K&N on the factory stock intake with the Air Silencer and Fender Fire wall thing removed.

1. Cleaner look/more underhood space--acheived
2. Zero power improvement--acheived
Also, with the AM kit there was no change in sound--others probably vary, IDK.
I think my gas mileage DROPPED bout .5-1 MPG--that was a bad surprise
I don't remember any dyno numbers on those product reviews but there may be some. I do remember one guy claiming at least 20 HP. (that's obviously a load of hooey)
There is a place on ebay somewhere that sells just the tube from the TB to the MAF. Since you already got the K&N you might want to check it out. Could save a few bucks. But it ain't gonna give you any more HP.

Now you're starting to make SOME sense. The CAI will look better. I don't believe you'll see any gain over the K&N to justify the price, but the look is worth something. I bought the AM CAI with the following expectation:
1. Cleaner look/more underhood space--acheived
2. Zero power improvement--acheived
Also, with the AM kit there was no change in sound--others probably vary, IDK.

I've noticed a difference sound wise in some other Mustangs.
