Default 8.8 rear end

Well since my 7.5 is gheyed I'm looking for an 8.8, I found one out of a Mach 1 on ebay, but it's starting bid price is $350. Unlike you central fla guys the market value of mustang parts over here is way more expensive..lol.

Even worse though is that it's just the axle tubes, axles, and diff. No brakes, control arms or shocks
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-...item3ca9fbf630

Will my control arms bolt up to that fine? It says that he has V6/GT caliper brackets on it so my brakes should be fine.

Deppends on how much horsepower your planning on pushing. If you don't plan on putting out more than 350, I'd stick to the 7.5 and upgrade it accordingly.

Pee Pee didnt define "gheyed" as far as, is his diff broken, or does he just think it sucks.

01FR500 sounds right on target to me.

He never asked how much hp it can handle. He just asked this "Will my control arms bolt up to that fine?"

I have a slightly bent axle in my 7.5, a new axle is $100, gears are $170 and tlock is over $100 and the install is probably all of that times two. And after all of that I'd still have a rear end that might break once I get over 300ft-lbs. I'd rather buy an 8.8 and not have to do anything to it..

And I don't plan to be under 350rwhp.

I didn't know his **** was already broke. Since the one he is looking at is only the housing, not axles, diff, or brakes, then my point was that it made more sense to stick with the 7.5, unless Kevin plans on putting down a lot of horsepower, which it sounds like he does. So taking in the fact that he does want to increase the horsepower, I would recommend an 8.8, but to hold out a bit more for one that is more complete with a diff, and axles. Yes, the control arms will bolt up, they are the same.

Wait...are we looking at the same thing? It has the axles and the differential, it just doesn't have the suspension or brakes. It's not just the housing.

the rearend has the factory 3.55 gears and stock 28 spline axles and diff, the abs rings are still on the axles and all lube has been drained from the rearend

first off, to answer your question. Yes, everything from your 7.5" axle will bolt over as far as the brakes and suspension are concerned. Mustangs have the same rear-end brake package until you get to the Cobra's. As for "is it worth it?" I think that $350 is ALOT of money for that axle. You can go hit up a salvage yard for an axle for like $100, brakes and all. Also, your options are actually pretty open, as you can yank an 8.8 out of a mustang, town car, crown vic, cougar/t-bird,explorer, F-series trucks, and Navi/Expeditions. Basically, I'm saying their are better options out there that specific axle.

It will bolt on and so will your brakes. Just keep the 7.5 till you swap because you will need the caliper brackets etc...

Well, yes and no. It's rare that you'll find anything of use in the junkyards over here, and if you do they know how much they can get out of it, I wouldn't plan on seeing an 8.8 for under 200, I mean; they wanted $50 for 2 factory CC plates...haha. Also I'd think the 8.8s in the trucks would be different because of their control arms and leaf-spring attachments. And even then, are they all 62.25" hub to hub /w 5-lug discs? Mach and Bullitt brakes were larger than GT/V6 brakes as well, 11.65" or something like that.

I'm going to call the 2 u-pull it places today but I'm not expecting them to have anything, our junkyards suck.

My Expedition has coils, ,and I believe Navi's do also. I think the bolt pattern for the trucks might be 5x5" also, not the mustang 5x4.5". I do know a guy who threw a truck rear under his car, and just ran truck wheels out back, but that was mainly a drag car.
I would look for a Cougar/T-bird or a Crown Vic/Grand Marquis. I believe that the axle is a little bit wider on them, but a little bit of extra track just improve handling.

You are correct, Mach and Bullitt's came with the larger Cobra rear brakes.

Dig around Craigslist for somebody parting out the previously mentioned cars, as well as mustangs. Alot of people, and shops, part out wrecks.

fck, yeah, I was reading it wrong. I'd buy it if it stayed at $350. Your brakes and controls arms will work.

get one from a 94-98 car and slap some 25mm spacers on it. It'll fit like stock and you can use your old control arms, even though you should get new good control arms.

Well I went ahead and got it, $356. Still pretty high IMO but it's rare to find one around here in any case and I really want to get this done soon. Picking it up during the week.

Stronger rear end and better gears not a bad deal over all.

I don't think it's such a bad deal either. It's only a little more than I'd expect to pay around here if I couldn't find a junkyard part.
