Default ABS sensor

Hi, I recently got my gears installed and my mechanic broke one of my abs sensors. He said he would install a new one for free but he wants to charge me 100 for a new sensor. So I have a couple questions:

While my ABS light is on, can I pass emissions?

How hard would it be for an average person with a moderate amount of tools to install? I have done my throttle body and plenum.

I see them online for like 30 bucks, I dont want to pay him 100 if I could install it myself.

Is he a friend or just someone you usually go to? Because by law if you took it to a shop, weather you know them or not (Friend is a different story) they have to pay for it and install it.

Edit: I was just doing a fast search through my Haynes Manual and from the looks of it, I'm pretty sure you can do it your self. Haynes or any other book is really handy. Even though I didn't use it installing my Clutch for the first time. LoL

Well, he owns a shop here in town but he was my baseball coach for three years. So I dont really want to get the law involved.

I hear ya on that, that's why I was asking if it's a friend or something. I'm pretty sure/positive it's something you can do. Pick up a Haynes Manual or something else and you should be fine. If not do your Re-Search online.

You should be able to pass emissions with the Brake Light on

You can install the ABS sensor yourself. It sticks throught he caliper bracket and is then bolted on with an 8mm bolt - the wire routes from the rear brake, through a grommet and ends up under the rear seat. The hardest part about putting one in is getting the rear seat out (that's actually really easy once you figure it out - it's a screwdriver to push 2 buttons under the seat). There is one sensor on each side, so if you get stuck, you can always look at the other side to figure it out.

It's not uncommon to break them trying to get them out - has happened to about 75% of the ones I have worked on. They're plastic so it doesn't take much to break them and there's very little you can do to get them out if they're stuck (other than break them). I think they're about $75 from Ford last time I did it.

I'd make his *** replace it. But, if nothing else, you could buy the sensor for the $30 and take it to him and get him to install it.
