Default nearing the breaking point

my situation is near the breaking point.

my mustang's transmission is finally gone (i think). when i try to shift into first, it goes straight up to the console. when i try for second, it goes straight down to the E-brake. i move the shifter all around, and i can't find a gear. i hope to god it's just the shifter. i manadged to find first with the shifter way down near the E-brake to bring it home, but it's undriveable as it is. in fact it's stuck in first.

some of you might remember me being in financial trouble with my bank. well, i barely got that straightened out. i also lost 3rd and 4th gear previously, which i posted about. to top it off, my parents are on hard times too, and they are unable to pay for their bills. so, i'm on my own, while living at my parent's place at the moment.

i am seriously considering either going back to the army full time, or if things get worse (like losing my job), going into bankrupcy. cause i'm pretty fucked up a creek without a paddle.

i need help.

Sell fluids? **** could always be worse, a broken trans is minmal compared to the problems that some have. Sell the car and get a bike, sell the bike and get some good shoes.

i think i found my problem. my transmission had been slipping out of gear and 4th was grinding when i let off the clutch when trying to shift to it. i went to AAMCO's website to check, and apparently my shift linkage was going bad. that requires it being taken apart. haha, well my shift linkage completely broke now. joy.

Assuming its stock, you have a T45. They are pretty much famous for breaking shift forks. The parts aren't really that expensive but labor will kill you. Its really not something you can do yourself unless you have a press and really know how to use it.

UPDATE: i took off my shifter, a nut came loose. so, i tightened the shifter back down and shifted it, it shifted fine. i decide to take it for a test drive, it drove just fine. still lost third though. i decide to try 4th...it actually went into gear and drove. so i have 4th. the problem is, when i shifted into 4th, it LOCKED in 4th. i put it in 1st, it won't go forward. 2nd, won't go forward (the engine bogs when the clutch catches, but the car fails to go forward). i put it in third. now, when i put it in third, it should act like it's in neutral. but it doesn't. it bogs just like first and second. i put it in reverse, it bogs and won't move. i put it back in 4th, it moves. i put it in neutral, it moves. when i move the shifter side to side, it feels like it hits a wall, and i gotta wiggle the shifter back and forth to get it to go side to side.

what is the problem? shifting fork?

You need to pull the shifter and inspect that thing.

Kinda sounds like you fragged the 3rd-4th shift fork. So just how good is your neighbor?
