Default NMR, Wheel is whistling. Name that noise!

I think i know the problem already, but i wanted to list the symptoms to see if you all think it is the same thing before i start replacing parts.

I bought my wife a Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD and we are selling the 2002 Saturn SL2. It has developed whisteling noise on the front drivers side wheel that sounds kind of like a baby chicken peeping. The speed of the whistle depends on the speed of the car, anything under 30mph and you can hear it, above 30 it seems to go.

the alignment seems fine. there is no pulling to one side or the other when braking. there is a slight steering wheel wobble that i suspect is not related as the tires are pretty worn.

This noise is pretty constant under 30mph, but it disappeared for a few days. I took the saturn to work today and by the time i got here (bout 20 miles) the whistling was back.

I can get a recording of it, i forgot to bring my DVR today which i was gonna nab a sound clip.

i need to fix this so i can sell it.

So...
NAME THAT NOISE!

lol

not brakes, they should be good. if the rotor was warped i would feel it pulling and bouncing. if it was a rock pressed in the pad, it woulda fallen out long ago and scored the rotor.

I was also thinking wheel bearing, but i wasnt sure, some of the symptoms i have heared include popping and also the noise is louder at higher speeds, in this case it disapppears at 30mph. one of my buds works at Big-O tires, he checked the wheel by grabbing and pulling in and out and he couldnt get to budge, it diddnt make any chirping either.

i guess ill just have to take everything off tomorrow and inspect it and see if anything else might be awry. if i cant see ****, then it is probably the bearing after all.

pain in the ***. i ******* hate spindle nuts.

whats the squeaking sound like? is it a voice? does it say "you shouldn't of sold your mustang?" does it have a thick peruvian accent?

Could also be the paint (or whatever it is, I always call it paint) on the sides of the pads flaking off and causing a squeaking noise. Have seen it fairly often, when you pull everything off just check the edges of the pad. If it's all flaky that could be your issue.

I doubt it, JR's car being a new edge. I have 140k and don't expect WB problems for another 140k at the least.

OOOPPPPS..... he's talking about a saturn.

disregard
