Default Power Steering

Hey guys, my beater is losing its power steering. when i turn the wheel, it sounds like a pully isnt working right and the power on the turns cuts in and out during the course of turning the wheel.

it was only small at first and now it is hard as hell to turn the wheel when the power isnt kicking in.

any help would be appreciated.

btw, 1999 sable ls w/ 145,xxx miles.

Could be the pump is dying, could be the rack is going bad. More then likely like all cars the pump is going bad from the fluid never getting changed. Step one if it was me would be to start the car open the hood and check the pump out, make sure it has fluid and that its not full of metal shavings. You can shine a light on the fluid and see if there are metal shavings in it or not.
