2001 Cobra Ez Hp...
Just wondering, im about to start running my 01 cobra at the drag strip and i was just going to get some opinion's on somewhat cheap ways to get the most hp i can? If your wondering its all stock right now.

Yeah but 4V power plus all the rubber junk in the IRS doesn't equate to good power transfer. If you can get wheel hop on a stock GT, I'm sure it's worse on the Cobras. As for lowering springs, those won't help you at the strip. What will are stiffer bushings in the IRS (Maximum Motorsports has tons of kits) as well as drag spring, drag shocks, drag struts, and chassis reinforcement (subframe connectors). If you aren't that serious about drag racing, just stick to the IRS upgrades and subframes since those are beneficial to daily driving as well as any kind of racing.

when you say wheel hop are you talking about when you dump the clutch the rear end bouncing? if so yes... she tends to do that when the tires are spinning. Will the IRS upgrade help that?
well... besides suspension i was talking more like engine bolt ons such as bigger throttle body, cams, gears, and things of that nature, what do you think about that?
ohhh yeah and what do you think of a slp loudmouth exhaust on she cobra?

yeah suspension mods would for sure be helpful because the IRS is not exactly good for drag racing. You can get more HP by getting a cold air intake, cat back, mid-pipe and for sure get a tune.....with those mods you'll probably be close to 290-300rwhp

thanks man, yeah i know theres supposed to be 320hp factory in these cobras but about how much do you think are at the wheels?

a full suite of MM's IRS upgrades will help with the wheel hop but that's only the beginning.
I'd consider that the IRS is not really the best choice to drag race on, it's fragile and will break leaving you stranded at the track. I did a conversion on my gt and fragged the IRS several times before I wised up and went back to a live axle.
As for power: stock 01's toss down 265-285hp out of the box. A tune and a CAI and exhaust upgrades front to back will have you very near or just over 300rwhp. From there it's all about suspension.
DO NOT use lowering springs and think you'll have better track times. Drag springs are the monkey there. Lowering springs usually hurt your 60' times and subsequently your overall ET and they make it easier to spin the tires on the line.
And no, 01's don't even have a supercharger. They do have aluminum blocks IIRC but the termy's have iron blocks.

now, i can correct you and say the 99 and 01 cobras have aluminum blocks aka TEKSID. the 03-04 cobras have iron blocks. i just read what r3d wrote after i made this post.
the IRS in your year car is pretty fragile but if you upgrade the half shafts and put in a IRS brace with all new bushings that will really stiffen that thing up and keep you from breaking it. my friend has a 2004 IRS in his GT and i seen him shock load it at 4500 dump and held up just fine but if he didnt have the bigger half shafts (stock 03-04) brace and bushings that thing for sure would of broke on him.
if you want to be faster in the drag strip than get started on your suspension and once you get that dialed in start working on the go fast things....remember cat back exhaust is only good for a new sound dont really pick up power. gears are the way to go to acheive the best bang for the buck mod get 4.30's and dont look back

Teksid blocks were in 98 and earlier cars. From 99+, they got WAP blocks (Windsor Aluminum Plant).

I would start with the basic's. A cheap cold air intake, off road mid pipe, catback (mostly for sound because who wants a quiet mustang), and then gears/tune combo. With the 4v motor (whats in your car) they breath really well up high and need gears to get them up in the power band faster. For a n/a car i wouldn't go less then 4.10 at the min; with 4.30's or 4.56's being a better choice. If your going to do nitrous or forced induction of some kind then 4.10s would be good choice for that. Though turbo cars are different and you wouldnt want all that gearing.

i should of stayed in my corner too...oh well. i was partially right and wrong.

No less than 4.30's. I would recommend 4.56's if you don't do much high speed driving (above 55mph). Definitely exhaust: longtube headers, catted/ off road mid pipe, catback ( I personally think that SLP sounds obnoxious and I would never buy it). Ram air or Cold Air induction from JLT. Lowering springs will make the car look badass, but will not help you get off the line. Do the IRS rearend upgrades. You will also want a dyno tune. Put a drag radial on it and have fun! Should get you into the 12's no problem.

Then it's up to you if you want to upgrade the rest to make it stronger:

we should limit your posts to "thats cool" and "looks great!".

I think there are some pretty good posts to help you get going. I know people will say a cold air intake and catback won't make much difference, but 4v's are different. If you add the basic mods I mentioned in my previous post you'll be right around or over 300whp like r3dn3ck mentioned. I had those mods on my mach 1 and it put out 304rwhp and 330rwtq. I believe the 01 cobra's probably will make a little more peak hp. If you can do those mods, gears and some suspension work you'll have a smile from ear to ear

you really need to upgrade all of your bushings in the IRS. you will be so much further in the game than most people with IRS's. couple that with subframe connectors and you should eliminate most or all wheel hop.
