for dracing king cobra clutch
#4
king cobra clutches are very heavy on the pedal. i weighed 190lbs when i drove my friends and it took my butt out of the seat to weigh enough pressure down to put the clutch in.
get a spec stage 2. smooth pedal and is holding my power right now and is only ment for way less.

I have the KC clutch and I love it. dunno what stangcharger is talking about, as the pedal feel is a bit heavier than stock, but no where near as heavy as he makes it sound. Its a good solid feel, and grabs WAY better than stock.

I ran a KC in my 1996 Gt for 3 years (put in a new one at the start of each season) and I ran 12.30's@109 mph wth a "bolt-on" 4.6 SOHC wth slicks and a 100 shot and NEVER had a clutch issue

Score another one up for the KC. I have never felt a heavy pedal KC clutch. There a very good option IMO mostly due to IF you get to where the KC isnt holding the power you need(not from wear but you just outgrow it) then just get a good disk(mcleaud or spec) and it will once again work very well.
I made 450whp in a 97 cobra with it, it would start to slip in top of 3rd and 4th on the street but held on the dyno. Installed a spec disk(still the same KC press plate) and it held up again and as far as I know is still going strong.
I agree with Randy, spec is too hit and miss for me

Ive had both! i torched the s@#$ out of my KC for 4 years i couldnt believe it lasted that long including quite a few nitrous passes, pedal was a bit heavy though! but the SPEC II aint no lite pedal as some make it sound and you get quite a bit of clutch chatter if you dont rev it.

I dont know why there is a difference but i drove my friend s 95 5.0 gt and the king cobra was so heavy i am seriously not lyeing about having to use all my weight on it. maybe it was a bad install or something but that was my experience with them.
and my spec stage 2 i am putting far more power than this clutche is made for. and when took off for my tranny swap looked like new.
so that is my experience with both.

on my car the spec stage 2 is a feather. literally i can do it with my big toe.

Well i still have the SPEC II on my GT w/nitrous as far as durability and its ability to handle the power iam putting down its awesome, the clutch really bites hard! but theres no way in Hell that i can push that clutch with any of my toes I have changed to aftermarket adjustable cables, quadrants etc; and ended up replacing it with the stock Ford cable to get the most durabilty and engagement. The only set up that i have seen those clutches to be smooth on are in the LS1. My buddy has an 02 Ram Air T/A and he has the SPEC III the only reason its smooth is cause GMs have hydraulic slave pumps.
and fyi so everyone know. once my spec goes out im going RAM. but i dont think RAM is needed on an almost stock gt, unless you just want an awsome clutch. it will cost a pretty penny though.

thank for the offer buddy but thats a bit far for me too travel just to test my toe strength

one thing you guys need to know about clutches, esp diahpram style pressure plates (as most of the ones your using are)....if you are making over 500+ HP the fingers on a diahpram presure plate just wont hold, so companys like Ram Clutches will recommend a 3 finger (Long or B&B) type P/P on cars make a ton of HP....also a bigger clutch asbly is NOT always better, as a Bigger clutch will "hit" the tires, trans and driveline a little bit harder, so tire spin and parts breakage are a risk....
