I have a 1989 mustang with a 4 cyl engine. The car will not start. I have replaced the cap, plugs, rotor, wires, and coil. yet i have no spark from the coil to the distributer...
Can anyone give me advise as to how i can fix this....
Thank you...

On those cars, its not just change some plugs and your good to go...on the dist. you need to make sure you have your points on the dist. correct. You may want to have a mechanic check it out to make sure, if you have a friend thats good with that stuff

are the wires on the right plugs/ordering fire?
Is your distributor getting power/spark? Take off one of the plug wires and ground it and see if you get a spark(thats how you do it right, someone help me on that one)...Hope it works out

battery? if you're not getting spark then clearly there's a break in the system. Car only needs gas, air and spark. Keep eliminating possible failure points and you'll finger it out.

Is your coil good? Check to see if you're getting voltage to the coil. If so, your coil is probably shot.

if you're not getting anything out of the coil wire to the dizzy then either the coil isn't properly connected or the battery is dead. I had a loose signal wire on a coil once (old 67 bonneville) and it caused first a random failure to start then a total failure. Was hard to track down. Don't take the quality of any connection for granted... check each point.

Im not sure about the 89 model year but I know the SVO 4 cyn motor really well and it could be your ignition module. This is a common problem with the early system. Ford mounted it on the distributer where it would get to hot and later systems they mounte it away from the engine. I carried a spare with the special tool so I could replace it if it every failed on me. The heat does a # on this part so keeping it cool is the best way to combat its early demise. You can mount it in a cooler area but you would have to extend the wires and mount it and an aluminum block which the later Fords had for proper heat disappation, also make sure to use thermal grease.
