Default A/C compressor turns on and off

When using the A/C accesories the compressor will turn on for a bout 1 second then turn off for about 8 more seconds. It will then turn on again for 1 second and turn off for 8. This cycle continues whenever the A/C is on. It began doing this somewhat after my K&N FIPK install. What might be causing this?

If its not as cold as it should be you may have a leak somewhere. Do a visual inspection of the ac system and lines in engine bay if you see oily residue on any of the ac line couplings you may have an o ring that is bad. A way to detect leaks is to get an ultraviolet light (black light) and see if you see any liquid glowing around the AC lines. Iam not sure if Ford puts a dye in the refriegerant but Im sure you can look it up online to see if they do. You can buy at any local auto parts store the dye to trace where the leak is. Just remember to first look around the area where you where working maybe you damage a line or pulled on a line and damaged the oring or spring. Also look at compressor for signs of oil residue pay close attention inbetween the clutch and in the back where the two lines are. Worse case if the leak is in the evaporator under the dash.

if he had a leak it would not cause the a/c clutch to go on and off. i ment if its staying cold then the a/c is just working very well. if its hot the system has a problem with the a/c comprssor. They have a switch for if they get to hot and they will do what he is saying or it could be blown. but i cant remember where it is on the car.

The air isn't very cold at all. But the compressor is never really on to make it cold except for that 1 second.

Most likly the reason its cylcling like that is because there is not enough freon in the system. The pressure switch that turns on the compressor is on the Reciever Drier with is a bottle on the passenger side firewall. Has a screw on switch with wires coming out of it. Check for leaks by visually looking at all the lines going from that bottle to condensor then compressor.
