Passed emissions with O/R x-pipe.....again
I went through emmisions testing the other day. Pulled up into the small testing bay, S/C was screaming and exhaust was pounding. LOL. It was super loud! The lady immediately stuck her mirror under the car to check for cats. She looked long and hard moving the mirror up and down the pipe looking for signs of one. I was sweating already. I didnt think it would pass. She called another lady over to have a look at it. She said "Its a straight pipe!" Then, "Lets look on the other side...." So they did and i told them that the converter was in the middle where the 2 pipes join together....lol. I dont think they bought that and she asked "what year is it?" I said " its an 03.." and she said "Oh ok no problem!"
So they hooked the OBD tester up under the dash, turned off the car, then started it back up. (Its even louder upon startup) and she checked the computer. Then went over, grabbed the printout, and oddly says "well it passed!" I said ok Thanks!
So I guess since its an 03 I dont have to worry about having catalytic converters on it?! Or was she assuming the computer would spit out a code if it didnt have them? Had the rear 02's turned off with my tune...Did I just get over? LOL!

I've never failed with no cats...with the rear O2's turned off the ECU thinks the emissions are fine...hence you passing. your lucky they believed you about the "center cat" though...lol. Here in Ga, they dont even look. And in Ohio where i am moving at the end of September, a law was passed recently....NO EMISSIONS TESTS FOR ANYONE!!!! FTMFW!!!!

every time i have gone ive gotten either and old man or woman

you can just try going to the inspection center located in the ghettoest part of town. They usually hire people from that area so they are more likely to pass you....

They usually do even numbered cars one year, then odd numbered cars the next year so you go once every 2 years.
94 and above use odb scan and 93 and below use a sniffer. Mine has also been sniffed though. Mine isnt too loud on idle so they havent checked for cats on mine.
they also do some roller test crap and some other stuff then send you on your way.

In Missouri if you live in st.louis, jefferson, or st.charles counties you have to get emissions testing. When I was living there they would originally just do a visual and put a sniffer in your tailpipe after the safety inspection right in the shop you took it to for the inspection. Then a few years ago they passed a new stricter deal where you have to take your car to a separate state run facility after the safety inspection. Here they'd put your car on a dyno type machine and test it. Sometimes they would set up some kind of sniffer deal on the side of a road like an on ramp to a highway and it would sniff you and scan your plate and you'd get a pass or fail that way.

california has a few counties with lax test requirements but for 90% of us it's onto the rollers at idle and 2500 wtih the sniffer and the OBDII scan and a healthy visual. CARB certified parts make life easier but sometimes they'll still trip. If you fail it's off to test-only with you and then you're screwed if your parts aren't legal.

MI used to have it, they got rid of it long ago.

Ahhhh. That explains why I've never heard of it. I'm still at the young age of 19. Unfortunately, I just called for window tint pricing, and they now have a no-tolerance policy for passenger and driver side windows. 85$ ticket given for any type of tint w/o any warnings. I guess we lose the emission test, but gain super strict tint policies.
