Default New here, New to the Mustang!

Hello all...
I just came over from the LVC (fastnsmoothls) world after owning a 2002 Lincoln LSV8, now I own 2004 GT, Screaming Yellow, and sadly have to say that I got beaten by my Buddie's 03' LS V8. I'm pixxed and need to get back at him. After the race, I put on a BBK intake, Magnaflow cats and 70mm plenum. I'm not ready yet. I'm thinking next, 3.73 gears and Diablo's predator. I found the package deal over at American muscle ($539.99) for the gears and the tuner with purple lubricants, I think that's a hell of a deal. My shop will charge me 200 to install the gears. They only charged me 50 to change the pulleys. Anyhow, I need your support and help in guiding me how to post in the right places so I won't upset anyone here and how to find the info I need, I'm sure I'm not the first one asking these questions. Well, what should I go with? Xcal2 or Predator? what is the diff between 3.73 and 4.10? is 4.10 safe for everyday driving? Where should I put my money next? I respect all your opinions as I'm new to this Mustang world and any feedback is greatly appreciated. BTW, it's a 5 speed. Also, what do you think about a Pro Charger installed for 5700? Has anyone considered taking the back seat out? I think it's just extra weight, good for nothing. Let me know. Thanks guys.

Really, can I blow my engine with 4.10 racing at higher speeds? 130-150?

Howdy and welcome to the boards. If your going to F/I your GT, then I'd say go with 3.73 gears. As for the tuner, I use a predator and like it, but check with the guy whose going to tune your car and find out what he uses, otherwise, they're both good options.

Welcome! 3.73's are great gears if your doing something forced inducted. 4.10's are nice and very big improvement. I myself use 3.73's in an automatic just due to the amount of freeway driving and so forth. I wanted 4.10's, but had to compromise. As for tuners and programmers, make a few posts and see if you can locate some in your area. I would check Diablo, SCT, etc., on their dealer location pages. Once again welcome to the forums.

Default Thanks!!!

Thanks for the fast response. I guess I'll go with SCT, and my only concern with 4.10s is the highway driving. I don't want to blow my engine for driving at 75-90 everyday. I can keep it normal to 70, but those speed bursts, that's what worries me...

I have 4:10's in my N/A DD, I have had them in for over a year I do alot of highway driving no compliants here, I get the typical bet you use a lot of gas remark, but not much difference then 3:73's and if I was worried about gas I would have bought a 30 mpg civic

He speaks the truth...

I've had 3.73's and 4.10s, and 3.73's aren't worth all money you'll have spent to get them and get them installed if you plan on staying N/A, 4.10's on the other hand I can't say enough good things about them.

i just got my 4.10s, all i can say is wow. if you light on the gas then you wont feel the difference, but if you mash it, your tires are gone. when cruising at about 70, my rpms sit right at 2000, right where it should be. the only bad thing is how much more you have to shift

Default Good deal then.

Going with 4.10. Gas usage? What is that? LOL. I know the deal with gas, if I was worried about it, I would have gotten a yaris or something like that. Thanks for your response. So, you think it's a good deal the package of gears + Diablo for 539.99? Now my problem is that I'm thinking of going with Xcal2 instead, so I'd be buying them separate. The Ford dealer where I purchased the car at can install 3.73s for 350, parts and labor, won't void the warranty but they won't do 4.10s!!! I'm thinking of cancelling the Extended warranty on it anyways, the more I add the less they cover, plus I paid 2900 for it and only good for 36/36,000. These cars are pretty tough, so I hope I won't have any problems.

there is no way to blow your engine because of a gear swap. you can choose not to bounce it off the rev limiter by taking your foot out of the pedal before you hit 5800rpm. Problem solved. Now go get the 3.73s and a Xcal2 (Diablo is azz). Your warranty will be voided bit by bit so cash it in and save up for any major repairs. Your dealer is giving you a killer price on the gears or I'd tell you to get 4.10's. For the difference... take the money and run.

SCT's stuff is great. I'd go that route again and again.

Default got them on...

4.10 are great, no regrets yet. Put it on the dyno and numbers before the tune were at 237 RWHP, after the tune, 269 RWHP and 302 RWTQ. I'm happy with the results and the only things I have is CAI, CATBACK and 70mm plenum. Going to order the 70mm TB as well, the x pipe and thinking about long tubes but the guys at the shop told me that It wouldn't really be cost effective since I'm not going FI. I paid 700 for the gears (ford racing) + install, by the way it included the synthetic oil and bearing kit, shims, all new parts in there, Diablo tune on the dyno. Good experience. From your experience, will I benefit cost wise, by doing coils, wires, spark plugs, and maybe the ignition? Is it worth it, HP to $$$$? Thanks, guys. Let me clarify something... the air/fuel mixture was coming way off, too rich. I had a BBK on it, during the process they decided to try swapping the CAI kit to a K&N setup. With the BBK I was getting 258 RWHP, they thought it was kinda low, after they swapped to K&N, we got 265 RWHP, after they let it cool for 5 min, we got 269 RWHP. I kept the K&N on for just 30 bucks, they kept my BBK. I thought I'd share it with you. Not to mention I had 87 Octane in the tank, they told me that once I get 93 running on it, it should boost another 4-8 HP, true? They are using one the most aggressive tunes they have (my request) and for that reason they didn't remove the REV limiter, just raised it a little, the guy told me it could take a few runs for the car's computer to adjust more to the tune since it's so aggressive and I was running 87, nasty knocking, and I'll tell you, the difference is amazing. The smoothness and responsiveness of the engine is really one to admire, what a change! Smooth acceleration, fast response, quick take off, burnouts in second, I can't wait to get more power out of it. The sunoco near my house is about to open and they're featuring their 94 octane fuel, that will be my liquid.

When I got there, they told me that 3.73 just went out of stock, they had 4.10 and could do it for 700!!! A$$ Wipes!

I've had mine up to 145 with the 4.10's and was still under 5800. The rpms are what you are worrying about not the speed. Still your rpm's will be lower with the 3.73's at those speeds. That gear pricing was too good to be true. Gears are not exactly and easy or fast install. I did mine myself after researching until I knew exactly what I was doing. Good numbers by the way.
