Dazed/Confused Newb needs modifications help.
I know I’m going to hear, just be nice.
I have a 2006 GT 2 weeks old - stock automatic (I know), be nice; I live in LA and traffic is a pain especially with a stick shift, coffee, breakfast jack, and cell phone and keeping both hands on the wheel.
I need to know where to begin my modifications. I’m not trying to do a ¼ mile in 7 seconds I just want to be able to take must stock cars in real traffic and on the freeway and maybe a couple stop sign to stop sign races.
I was told Cold air intake and a programmer would be a good start, but I come here and I see a lot off gear talk.
What does a newb that just lost to a Camry with FOUR PEOPLE IN IT ON THE Freeway, sorry for shouting start of with, keeping in mind I don’t plan on going all out with the car and I care about my warranty.
Right now I have $1000 - $1300 I can spend.

3.73 rear gears will be great around LA and they'll help your low rpm acceleration. Add a tune and CAI to that and you'll be spanking respectably fast cars. Auto's have their place. LA is one of those. I used to live down there... gawd I hated that traffic.

Autos are great, I wouldnt trade mine for anything. People that think they are slow just dont know what they are talking about.
Id go with 4.10's, CAI, and SCT XCal 2. PM me when you're ready for a converter.

Welcome, and I have a '02 auto GT and installed 4.10 gears. Gears are the best bang for the buck, but the 05+ stangs really respond well to a new tune, so, gears, cai and a xcal2. Post some pics of your car when you get a chance.

Thanks All
I really appreciate the advice and suggestions, here is the bucket.
Just joking, but to bad there is so much plastic and why use a lot of heavy parts but only give you/us a 13 gallon gas tank, I mean it's not a 4 banger. If it’s not a 13 gallon tank it sure seems like it, I'm at the pump everyday...OK maybe every other day.

2005 is a 16 gal. tank. I would assume the 06 is the same.

The Gas Tank: I'm going to take it to the dealer Tuesday, I know Dan in their service department quite well. Why: I test drove the car everything was fine, the placed closed as I left. Hours are to 9pm, I drove off at 10:15pm. What the heck is that vibration at 30mhp, and only 30mph. Long story short lol six times in their shop, last time they replaced the drive shaft and all three U-jolts and the rear bearings. The car works perfect now.
Camry: It was fixed up with rims, lowered, nice paint job and tint but I couldn’t hear anything because I had Pink Floyd up pretty loud. As I was loosing I quickly pulled off the freeway and took the streets home, (this happened during the drive shaft issue). Not saying that’s why my CAR lost.
Thanks thingstodotoGT about the car.

First, elcome to the boards. Second, I am sorry that you live in LA. I used to live in SoCal and travle to LA regularly and I have to say that LA is the single, worst place to own a nice car that you want to drive. Traffic is hell beyond belief.
As far as modding the car, I would start with gears (4.10's), a tune (is SCT X-Cal), and a CAI. You can do all three for about $1200 to $1400 with labor and will be thrilled with the results. You will drop a .5 seconds in the 1/4.
