Exclamation Help! Stripped bolt!

I'm putting brakes and rotors on the back of my 01 Stang. I finished the left side. Went to take of the right caliper and I stippped the lower 12mm bolt that holds caliper on. Yeah, I effffd it up good because I kept messing with it.

Does anyone know a trick to get a grip on it and break that sucker loose?

Maybe a tool from Sears. Thanks, Mark M

Spray some PB Blaster or WD-40. Vise grips might work. Or you can try hammering a socket onto it, I think a 12 point would probably work better. If none of that works, you could try a Craftsman bolt out set.

Yes I tried the Vise Grips. That's what really messed it up. It kept slipping and rounding the edges. Usually the Visegrips work on everything!

I think I will try a 12 point socket, is that what your taliking about?

Do they make a piprwrench that small where it would fit down there?

Thanks for the tips, Mark M

Yes Gregg, I'll probably get the easy outs. I was just fishing for something to try that I might have in the garage or something that I haven't tried. You didn't have to get stupid on me. I already know I messed the bolt up. Mark M It's all good!

OK guys, I found the,"Special tool"! Went to Sears and was dreading having to drill that nut out. I was looking around for a problem solver and I found it! NO GARAGE OR HOUSHOLD SHOULD BE WITHOUT ONE OF THESE KITS!

Here it is: Bolt out
Damaged Bolt/Nut
Remover Set

Obviously this won't work if the head has been broken off, but it will work on any stripped nut or bolt. These things are awesome. I'ts made by Craftsman and I think Bob Villa was selling these on TV sometime ago because on the packageing it says as seen on TV. I bought the sweet set of 13 pieces. I could have used one of these a long time ago.

Alright, so what should have taken me an hour or so to do the job, took me awhile longer because of my foul up. But that's normal when I'm wrenching on my car and I found some cool tools to add to my set in the garage. You can never have to many tools! I love em! Mark M Thanks D&D Garage!

Glad you got it out. I deal with broken socket head bolts very often at work. It's best when it breaks the head all the way off. then use a carbide drill bit to drill all the way through it. A hardened bolt with any relief at all has a good chance of coming out. easy out extractor should do the trick. if not you can always chip away at the hardened bolt. It is very brittle, and can be busted up using a punch and hammer, with some TLC you can get that hardened bolt out. Just dont try too hard and mess up threads of the hole..

I was putting on some drilled and slotted rotors and some high performance brake pads on. The rotors are nice with a zinc finish. They're just replacement size rotors that work with the original calipers. I got the four rotors and the two sets of brake pads for $200! Mark M

How do I post a picture of my car, say in this thread?

I host my pictures on www.mustangmods.com then put it in threads by using the button yellow button with the mountain.
