Default Which Rotors?

My front brake rotors have been warped since I bought my car back in November. I have lived with it, but they have progressively gotten worse. What brand rotors would you all recommed? I would like to get some drilled/slotted rotors, but I don't want to spend a fortune. Also, what pads?

Marc

I like Brembo or Baer, also use the stock OEM pads-less noise and brake dust.

no drilled rotors ever... you'll have to replace them with the pads next time and they crack and they just plain suck since you lose like 70% of your braking surface area to the holes. Powerslot rotors are good so are brembo, and those are what I'd use but here's the thing: You need rotors and pads right, well for the same basic cost as good rotors and good pads you can upgrade to a cobra kit and it'll come with good OEM pads and rotors and calipers and lines and you'll thank me every day for telling you to install it afterwards. The OEM kits used top shelf rotors and OEM pads are more than enough.

400 bucks and some shipping usually brings the kit to your door likkity split and they're stupid simple to install. 13" brakes dude... best single investment I've ever made. Saved my life more than once and it was cheaper than pads and rotors.

slotted look cool but on modern pads you don't get any outgassing so the slots only serve to wipe the pad clean which also isn't much of an issue either. Plain faced rotors are easy to turn and they're all you really need. I like slotted myself but I never find that they're any better than plain faced if you use a good quality rotor to start with.

Wagner, I got a set for the front when my front left cracked. Installed and working fine, plus i picked them up at autozone right down the street rather than ordering them .

Well I took advantage of Mustang Tuning's 10% off deal and went ahead and bought FRPP Drilled and Slotted Rotors with Hawk pads. I dont have the money for a Cobra Brake kit right now so these will have to do.

Anybody know how difficult the duplicolor caliper painting kit is to do?

great choice! Your wheels will be covered black in 4 days and youll eat them pads away using crossdrilled and slotted rotors.

HEY! thanks for the kind words! My wheels already get covered in black in nothing flat, so nothings new. If I had $700 to plunk down on a brake set up, I would, but given that I don't, I have to make do. $700 is alot of money for a 17 yr old and given that I have paid for and installed (except for the gears) everything in my sig, I don't think I'm doing too bad.

700 is alot even for a 29 year old to plunk down. lol
I believe its $450 for the kit from Mustang Tuning plus the cost of new rear rotors and pads, so I guess maybe more around $600 to $650 total.

I just went with the fronts, I have my rears painted.

Mattj did all his brakes cause he is **** about a lot of things and he has to have everything match, some kind of compulsive obsessive disorder, i think it falls in line with his severe homosexual tendancys and his abnormal fear of homosexuals.

lol

LOL. Yeah, I am just replacing everything. My front rotors are warped pretty badly and my rears probably aren't, but I'm replacing everything just to make sure.

I work next Tuesday so you'll be able to hear 'er ROAR! I'll probably have it on by afternoon on Saturday so I'll give you a call and maybe you'll be free.

O yeah, how long does it take for the paint to dry? Would it be possible to do all 4 in a day and have the car operational by the next day?

we would have shown you a dozen places where you can score a cobra kit for 400 bucks or less. Well, you've been warned about drilled and slotted so I won't beat that horse anymore but there's one other thing to prepare for... Hawk pads squeak loud and for no reason. Get used to it, it'll be with you for a while.

BTW... <tyrade>
Replacing the rears is a 100% waste of time money in about 90% of cases cuz about 90% of the time, they're not even worn enough to contemplate changing. Determining brake condition is laughably easy and I'd think that before you went on the replacement binge you'd at least check them out or maybe have them checked for free at any one of the fine shops throughout the nation that provide a free brake inspection. If you'll excuse the directness of the observation, spending money "just to be sure" is ludicrous when the absolute definitive answer is just a little ol' look-see away. </tyrade>

Its not hard but buy more brake cleaner and sand the areas to be painted because i have used it and after a while it flakes off if you dont. or find the kit that has the spray paint that works better my friend used that and none flaked off

Yeah i painted my brakes not too long ago, only did the fronts. Thought about the duplicolor kit, but instead just bought a can of VHT brake caliper paint in bright racing red, some brake-kleen, and bought a stainless steel wire brush. did three coats of the red and they are the brightest red ever lol... and you just tape off what you dont want painted and stuff some rags aroudn the caliper... while its still on the rotor and all. very fast, very good results. We used the same stuff on my old 95 and they are holding up great! I would be very angry if it ever flaked... I will do the rears another time lol.
