Default air filiter cleaning

hey guys, just wondering how many miles i should clean my steeda cold air intake filter at? It was bright blue when I got it and its getting darker and darker grey. It's probally been on for maybe 500-600 miles. Also, any good tips on how to clean it would be great, thanks.

I believe K&N sells a filter cleaning kit. Just make sure the filter dries completly and dont use too much spray/ oil on the filter because it could get on the MAF sensor and mess up the readings.

you shouldn't need to clean a gauze type filter for 15K miles or more. If you clean it too often it becomes less efficient at filtering and can foul your MAF element with oil. I've been known to go 20-25K before cleaning a K&N type filter with no power falloff to speak of.

There is really no set standard on how often you should clean it. All depends on what type roads you drive on. If you drive/live on dirt roads you will have to clean it alot more often.
