Default neutral bomb question..

ok my buddy has a 94 auto gt, his car was in neutral and revd it to 3500 rom then threw it in drive, now when he drives everytime the car shifts you hear this grinding noise, i tihnk his torque converter is messed up, so my question is how bad is neutral bombing your car? are there stronger converters you can get so if you do it it wont mess anything up?

wow, i remember when i would nuetral drop an auto...good thing it was a POS that i didn't care about....if it's your daily driver, and you like your car not broken, i wouldn't suggest dropping the hammer like that. Auto+internal damage=$$$

That is a HUGE shock to the entire drivetrain starting with the majority of the hit right to the tranny. Tell your buddy hes a moron, and he now (probably) needs a rebuilt tranny.

it's better and safer to stage it by holding the brake pedal down, get it to 4K rpms, then let off the brake and floor it. like i said...money time.

I've fragged a tranny like that before (on purpose in my case). Tell your idiot pal to get a new tranny because he grenaded his. The longer he continues to drive on it the worse the damage will be. The grinding he's hearing is probably a partially destroyed planetary gear and the more he harasses it the harder it'll be to take apart and fix.

Neutral is neutral. Drive is drive. Keep the two well separated.
