Thats what I thought too, also had another prob with the oil cap, went to ford garage for a replacement oil cap, the one that they gave me that was supposed to fit didn't , took it back, and brought mine to show them what I had and they found out that some mustangs have a oil cap on them from a f150 pick up, I have the part no. if anyone runs into this prob, its ironic now I have the oil amout difference !!!!! go figure

In 02 they changed the caps, or I should say started to. Older have screw on, newer have twist. It's the same with the trucks. You should not take more than six unless you used a full quart filter FL1A or equal number. The shorter filter and change will take six to the fill line.

The only mustang i know that needs 6 qts is the Cobra. Also how many valve cover bolts does your car have? 11 or 13? just one side.

Just felt like getting evey one the part no, Before u buy a billet oil cap , take the time and check your part no. its under the cap when u remove it I own a 02 GT .If your part no. is EC-756 IFIZ-6766-AA you "cant" use the screw cap, your cap has a "notch" in it ,then it screws in, the replacement is althreades and it will not fit , I found out the hard way , so double check

I found this out for mustangs specifications

DIMENSIONS AND CAPACITIES

Length 183.2

Width 73.1

Height 53.1

Wheelbase 101.3

Track, f/r 59.9/60.1

Fuel capacity (gal) 15.7

Oil capacity 4.8 qt

Coolant capacity 12.6 qt

Also if you scroll down this forum someone asks the same for an 01 mustang and they say 5 qrts. My friends have anywhere from 99 to 04 mustangs and always put 5 qrts in theirs, i've only seen cobras take 6 qrts.

well, everyone knows their mustang, so if it's good for 5, then use 5, if it's 6, then use 6. If your not sure, go with 5 first and if it needs more, then it's 6. As long at the oil is within the hash marks, you are good to go, doesn't have to be at the very top or very bottom, just in the hash marks.

Agree 100%. I know mine takes six but I still add five, run then check and add as needed.
