Question What would you estimate it would cost to paint a stang?

Ok so I finally received my insurance check for the scratches done by the last hurricane to hit Florida last year. It's minus my deductible. I am thinking
of 'shopping' around some auto body shops to see what the cost would be.

Do you know what the estimated cost would be to do a good paint job on my stang? The check is for $1600.xx, hell I dont mind putting down another 400 to reach $2000.xx, I just dont wanna get ripped off.

thkz for the input,

ceez

Reg99GT, yes I am keeping the same color, forgot to mention that.

how about racing stripes? If I want to get a black single or dual stripe, how much would you estimate they do that? Is that painted or do they buy a 'raching stripe kit'???

thkz again!

www.baltimorestreetmods.com has the shelby and rally stripes, they're cheap, when i was researching stripes they seemed like one of the best... Jack would also know, he's got a set on his car...

the stripes are like decals... they're pretty well stuck on once they're on.

For a good paint job... around here you're looking at 3500 to start and 5K if you want anything custom. Figure 2/3 of that anywhere else in the country.

As far as those stripes you can just get decals. Once the car is painted, apply the striped decals and then clear coat over the entire car. That will be the best and have it look very good

I think thats an insane price to paint a car. i got my 89 GT painted Signal green with racing stripes, doorjams and engine bay and all for just over 2600 and that was 3 years ago and it is still show quality paint. but i live in new york and it is stored in winter so who knows what'll happen in a few years

I used to have an s10 xtreme, I had racing stripe decals put on at a bodyshop, they were on for three years and looked like the day I bought them. And don't clear over them eventually they will crack the clear and come through. the decals have protective layer like clear on them already

Default on painting a Mustang

I have been a painter as well as a mechanic in my life and I would like to suggest that you get your information about painting from an expert and not on the misconceptions of what can and cannot be done in a paint job. The work you see at car shows is for car shows and like some performance modifications, don't always work that well in a street car environment! If you decide to do stripes [Vinyl] let the paint cure for at least six months it will also give you time to think of all the other possibilities you can think off.,

i'm with FEZ, my buddy's show car's average about $10k for there paint jobs....and they are completely flawless....but the car is completely stripped. Some shops do great basic paint jobs for really cheap. then others do cheap paint jobs and you get what you pay for...and usually your exhaust is painted to.

Sounds like a deal to me... custom paint and body work for 4K isn't too bad at all. Try a quote for a color change to mystic. now that's obscene.

I recently earned my collision repair certification and I painted a few cars and trucks while in school, I would tell you the prices for basecoat/clearcoat in my area run from about 2,200 to 3,000 depending on the paint color, personally if I was going to do stripes and was getting my car painted anyways I would just paint them on

Yeah I can imagine the paint itself is expensive thats for house of kolor tho but yeah. it would be nice to have a cameleon car tho but i would be too worried about it getting messed up

If I remember right, we looked the mystic paint price up one time and I want to say it was about $80.00 a ounce, I may be wrong though.....another alternative to that is a paint company called Auto-Air Color they have some nice paints, all of there paints are water based, I havent had a chance to spray any of it but I have seen some very nice paint jobs with it, here is their web site: http://www.autoaircolors.com/

they have a wide range of colors.....the best thing about their paint is its not as expensive and you dont have to use near as much
