mine has been off for over a year... no paint problems... that piece is mostly to reduce noise from the engine bay.

Mine's been off since like week 3. I've been running like that for almost 3 years now with zero paint problems. Hell the california sun gets my hood a helluva lot hotter just sitting than engine heat ever has.

What it'll get you, less dust in your face when you open the hood, -.5lbs. I took mine off cuz it made me sneeze like a mad man when I opened the hood.

I have had mine off for a long time. I can drive all day long and when I get home the hood is not even hot at all to the touch.
