Default Damn you Floppy!!! :) J/K...

I was perfectly content fooling myself into thinking that my BBK CAI was giving me a couple trillion extra ponies until I read this post of yers.. https://mustangboards.com/general-te...e-mac-cai.html So of course I had to see what was up. I started by just putting the stock air box back on until I had a chance to cut the CAI tube. Actually noticed a difference (POSITIVE) going back with the stock air box, but that was just with the butt-dyno, no hard facts. Picked up a filter at Pep Boys and cut the BBK tube like you did and Presto! Modified BBK Straight Shot CAI!!! 100% better than before...kinda wish they had a yellow filter in stock, but for 30 bucks, I ain't complainin'!

It's really simple... I used a Dremel with a cut-off wheel (same way as Floppy), and cut the elbow off about an inch or so away from the MAF flange. The filter has inserts for 3 inch, 3 1/2 inch or 4 inch CAI tubes...you can pick 'em up at Pep Boys. It would probably have been easier with a Sawz-All or chop saw, but it doesn't really take that much time to cut with the Dremel.

Floppy beat me to it!!! READ HIS POST!!!

I started with a hack saw to line it up right then took the saw zaw and ripped the hell out of it. It's about a 4 inch opening I got a K&N filter on mine.

I have upr cai- i could do the same thing or is UPR better? than bbk or mac
also i dont get how this could be better because if it is inside the engine not in the fenderwal then it is sucking in hotter air, where as inside the fenderwall it is much cooler

i know the guys at upr and i doubt their stuff is any better but it really depends on if yours has the big bend in it like the mac and bbk. post pics, i've never seen upr's cai. upr doesnt make their cai anyway, the probably get it from the same company that mac and bbk get theirs from.

Here it is- not a very good pic but thats it- i was lloking at the bbk cai and the filter faces horizontal to the car- on mine the filter goes into the fenderwall and down into the fenderwall so if you wanted to you could get down and reach your hand into the fenderwall under the car and grad the filter ( the only way to take it off) the filter faces down

So yours has two bends between the filter and the MAF?

thats the exact same setup as the mac and the bbk cai. you would benefits from cutting the pipe and putting a larger filter on the end just like icefreezen and dsdaddy and I. jeredan did it also but by buying/trading for a new intake. this is the cheaper and easier way of doing it for people like me who dont want to spend $200+ on a whole new intake.

r u guna cover it up with some kinda cover or sheild so you don't pull in all the hot air from the engine? If i understand you correctly you haven't tested this thing in the summer heat yet right? ...be interesting to see if it effects it during the warm summer days...

who are you asking? if you're asking me, im working on a heat shield right now. it says that in the other thread. and like i also said in the other thread. during the summer i drove around for like an hour and opened the hood, put my hand on the pipe for the intake and it wasnt hot. cold air can still come up through the fender and into the filter. im also working on a couple other things that will definitely help with getting cold air into the filter but im not gonna go into detail about that just yet.
