Greg, i ran into the same problem doin my brakes on my '02, we used a "C" clamp and turned it down tight and twisted it, and the piston started collapsing, just keep turning it by hand once u get it started.
Well, since your car isn't a Saab, I don't think that that's quite what you need. The rear calipers really need a tool like the one I linked to earlier. Lots of companies make that style of tool, I just used that one since I have that company bookmarked. That type gives you enough leverage to actually retract the piston. Sears sells a "universal" caliper tool that is shaped like a cube and has six different patterns for different types of caliper and fits on a socket extension. I tried that one and ended up throwing it away. The kit I linked to will work for most, if not all, calipers and will be useful any time you do a brake job. The C-clamp mentioned above would work for your fronts, but would irrepairably damage the rear calipers of your car.
