Cobra brake upgrade problem

Default Cobra brake upgrade problem

I installed the twin piston PBR calipers with stock brake pads and Baer Decela cross drilled / slotted rotors on my GT . The problem I am having is that when I brake i hear a griding noise but its not loud . Also , the brake pedal feels like when you brakes are about to be metal to metal . I'm thinking this rough felling is cause by the slots in the rotors but I'm not sure . I hate this , cause it makes my car feel like a P.O.S.

Put your old ones back on and ship those to me! I'll take care of them

When you install new brake calipers you have to bleed the brake lines to get the air out of them. This is why you feel like you have no pressure on your brakes. the grinding noise might be an improper install of your brake pad, or you should have had your drilled and slotted rotors turned before you put them in. Trust me...I went throught the same thing and was like WTF!!!!! Just bleed the lines and turn the rotors once and you should be A-OK.

If the rotors are new you shouldn't turn them, make sure you install new pads donot reuse your old ones with new rotors EVER!! I fig you meant the new stock pads that came with the calps, because cobra pads are dif fom reg gt And you must bleed the brakes. Drive for a week or so and rebleed again. If you invest in speed-bleeders($9 apair) you can bleed yourself in about two minutes!

Where can you order those speed bleeders at?

MT probably has them, steeda does, jegs, summit, etc..

I just noticed that the driver side rotor is crack in two places where its cross drilled . I think this is why me pedal feel the way it does .

Only three weeks and the rotors already took a sh*t :wallbash:

I will be contacting Bear tomorrow and see if they will warranty them .

Those one man bleeders are sold at every auto part store.

Yea, most people i know that have had cross drilled they end up cracking! Hopefully they will warranty them out.

The bleeders i tried Schucks and Autozone here and neither car parts stores have any type of one person bleeders, just some line suckers!

No more drilled rotors, they ALL crack. Slotted or plain faced are fine. Just buy good quality rotors and you'll be happy.

I run my car up a nasty mountain road and really exercise my brakes HARD every couple of weeks and I've never had any warping or rapid fade. I use Baer Eradispeed 1 piece plain face rotors. they're a thick cheek unit and they've been KILLER even under my late-braking foot. not saying those are the best, or only rotor to use but they make me very very happy. Those and OE replacement pads on my cobra kit (actually a branded Baer Track kit but it's totally the same as a cobra setup) are more braking power than I have tires to support. in the rear, OE brembo plain face cobra rotors (98 cobra axle) and Hawk HPS pads are more than sufficient.
