so i have a problem i dont know how to launch i dont know if i keep traction control on or off or overdriveon or off or what at the same time or one off or one on an everytime i launch i spin sideways like the light turns green slam the gas spin sideways please help me guys i dont know the proper way to launch or in which way to have overdrive an traction control etc etc please feedback thanks

As for your problem what are your mods? You might have gears so tall or have enough power where you need more then street tires. And should step up to a drag radials like nitto,MT,BFG or use a slick.

But i can tell you this as of now, dont leave traction control on ever it will kill your times. And never alow the car to go into overdrive at WOT it will kill the 4th gear band. Its not made for that kinda abuse. So always turn it off when drag racing.

 

after those two items... stage, then set your left foot on the brake and keep it down, apply just enough power to have it feel like it wants to move but don't let it or you'll red-light. when the last amber light lights up get ready to alternate pressure and get the gas down and the brake up and try to keep it out of the wall. When the light goes green, gitty up. As you practice at the lights you'll figure out the best time to do the pedal dance for the best reaction time.

There may be better ways with better equipment but that's how I've been taught on auto's... I like manuals. Rev and hold, dump the clutch, hope and pray.

Hopefully some auto guy will chime in and correct my method if needed and shed some light on yours.

 

Dont worry about reaction times right now. There are a few ways to launch.

1. Launch off idle. Leave the car in drive, and just floor it.

2. Power Brake. Leave the car in drive, push the brake down real hard, and rev up the car as much as possible. Then floor it.

3. 2nd gear launch. Put the car in second. Push the brake down real hard and rev up as much as possible. Then floor it. This will allow you to rev up the rpm's a bit more.

What method is best? IMO the best method is just launching off idle. It couldnt get any more simple then that. I tried the 3rd method and the car just launched so weakly. So even with my 3500 stall Im launching off idle. Try all of the different ways and see what works best for you.

Like everyone else said, turn off traction control and O/D. Also please let the car shift by itself.

 

About the only that I will add is not to wait on that green light. Go on the 3rd yellow, I know it's weird when you first do it, but that is how you get out the hole quick. Once you have fingered out your ride, power brake or throttle smash, then see how far into the 3rd yellow you can leave. Don't let a red light or two get you down, use them as training guides, not like your racing for cash, right?

 

Thanks for the tips guys, I too have an auto (the wife cant drive a stick, I didn't want to replace the clutch trying to teach her). But my question is, what about line locks? Would you recomend them, or not?

 

Stuff in a line lock, your buddies will love the gnarly burnouts you can do since the rear brakes won't be dragging. Other than that, I don't see much use for one in a daily driver that doesn't see the strip regularly.

I have an 2004 Auto GT and I don't have a traction control button. Does this mean I can't turn mine off or on? or does my car not have traction control?

 

I just put my E/T's up a little while ago!! For how hot it was I feel that I did pretty good. :banana:
