Default Mustang Performance Mods?

I was just wondering what would be some good performance mods to get some good streetable horsepower? I have a 97 3.8 with headers and an exhaust, what would be some other good performance mods. I was thinking cold air intake, and underdrive pulleys, what are some other good ones. Thanks

Welcome to the boards!

The fastest route to a faster v6 is rearend gears and a traction lock differential. Then go with a free flow exhaust. CAI and pulleys will only give you a minimal gain in power. If you want to beat GTs, youll need either boost or nitrous. I know a guy making 650whp with a 95 V6.

Yea i was also considering gears. What would u consider 3.73 4.10...or what? And for suprechargers or nitrous what would give me the most bang for buck. But i dont whant to put to much of a strian on my engine. I was lookin at an ati procharger. what do you think about them. It also needs to be mods that can be performed in the driveway of my house. Thanks

I think you would like 4:10s alot. The best bang for the buck is definately nitrous. The only downside is that you have to get the bottle filled alot. Its about $30 per fill. A properly setup system with all the extras is very safe. I would suggest an NX efi stage 1 kit. The 75 shot should give you enough power to beat a GT that isnt modded too heavily. If you plan on going with boost, turbo is where its at on a v6. That would require alot of skill under the hood and alot of welding involved unless you can find someones pre-made kit. I dont think a company sells a kit for it. The prochargers are nice also. They just wont make as much low end power, but the top end is great! A procharger would be alot easier to install.

Aight then. 4.10s and nitrous. What about the turbos yall mentioned from tma. Is that a bolt on kit or what. How much modification to the engine or car would i have to make with a turbo setup. And what is better a twin turbo setup or single turbo. Thanks

two are better then one. umm, as for the mod's to the engine/car, i think he's got a section on the website that tells ya how to install it, not sure tho. i know the oil pan must be tapped, headers removed. other then that and an oil line ran, i think it just bolts up. plus possibly moving some a/c lines.

bigger turbo, forged internals so ya can really turn up the boost. if ya build the motor the turbo will have greater effect. i'm not too sure when it comes to this stuff, some of the other guys would be able to help you more when it comes to the engine internals.

ok, single s/c with 2 106mm turbos. i figured if ya mount a gas tank on each of the fuel rails ya MIGHT have enough fuel for one 1/4 mile run. as for them blocking the window, dragsters don't open their eyes till the end anyways!
