Yes it wont be to hard on it. And just think how much faster you'll be able to get up to 80 or 90!!!!

I found im getting better gas miliage with my 3.90's. And on the highway also. Im not on the highway a lot, but now im in 4th and 5th gear sooner and not lugging around. You might drop 1-2mpg on the highway, but then you'll probably make it up in city. I go by how far i get out of a tank of gas, and im going further now.

Your motor will be reving higher, but it will be less work for the motor with the easier time on it with the lower gears.

Default 4.10

So...What are all the pros and cons of changing to 4.10? I hear that it's the biggest bang for your buck for increasing hp. I'm thinking about buying the Motive Performance Plus 4.10 Gears (V6) but I was just wondering if there's anything negative I should know about them before I do?

I was told that getting replacement gears would require tuning the computer because it will effect speedometer and transmission (which will cost additional cash) and is about $300 to install. Has anyone had this done and could share some info? Also I'm wondering how it will effect shifting...

gears dont add hp, what they do is make the car have a better ratio to get it moving faster. the pros and cons of gears are with high ratio gears you will get less milage on the highway, but in most cases in city driving you get the smae or better mpg due to the motor not having ot work as hard.

the advantage is well more acceleration which is always nice. if its a stick i would go at least 3.73's if its auto at least 4.10's.

my buddy has 3.73's in his 94 v6 witha 2000 v6 with an ati procharger on it, it seems to be a good ratio for it. and alot better than the 2.73's that were in it.

Ok, so this may be a really dumb question, but I'm gonna ask nonetheless. Why is it that everyone is saying 3.73's for a manual and 4.10's for an auto? Why the difference? I'm considering getting the 3.73's for my auto, but if there's a really big
"con" to getting them, I'll look at the 4.10's.

I just swapped out a stronger rear on my stang 31 spine axles and stepped up to 4.10s, I was happy with the motive 3.90s and even happier with the 4.10s. My 4.10s are motives also. No gear whine at all.

Everyone says 3.73 for stick and 4.10 for auto so the auto keeps up with the stick. Auto transmission Gears in the tranny are not as tall so the autos need a little more help.

Anyone know whats the overdrive ratio in fords Modular motor Autos?? .68 or .62??

Default rear end

The rear end on my 98 (v6) automatic gave out after a 100,000 miles. So I took it to a mechanic who changed the rear out with one from a later model V8 mustang he got from the junk yard. Through this forum I was told that I probably have the 3.73 gears and that it was a great upgrade. Well they did not have to tell me here what a difference it makes, I could feel the extra torque right away. As far as MPG goes I do not see any difference city or highway but I never watched my gas milage close enough to compare anyway.
