X2. You don't hear about Slavs being mistreated and how most that came to America were serfs beforehand (yes, serfdom in Eastern Europe was around until the mid-late 1800's).

The point is, his election didn't eliminate racism but instead kept it going by the fact he played the race card. If he and the rest of the Democratic Party (especially Murtha) didn't say stuff like your racist if you don't vote for Obama and if maybe he didn't play on his race during his campaign but instead based it on his ability, then yes, a new milestone would have been reached. But alas, that didn't happen and again, the media had to break the vote down not only by gender and age, but also by race.

What, for a couple hundred years of slavery??

just a little trivia here, Slavery has existed for THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of years, slaves existed back farther than we have any records, we know this because EVERY single historical record of a civilization that has ever been found has seen slavery in some form or another.

i will garauntee everyone on this forumboard has an ancestor who has been in slavery, and quite possibly generations of ancestors in slavery.

wait i mean yeah dude, everything was ******* dandy for my ancestors... the crusades, salem witchhunts, the great depression, world war 1, 2 (ohh holocaust that is a fun one), vietnam, korean war, civil war, the black ******* plague my people were there for that, the inquisitions, and oh yeah, im sure some of my ancestors were slaves too. My ancestors have been through countless generations of slavery, religious and political opression, persecution, and so have yours!

just cause they were more recent on the whole "slavery" thing doesent mean jack **** to me.

Im sick and tired of being merely labeled as "white" as if my own damn heritage has absolutly no meaning. The entire "African American" term is rediculous, which is it? are you african? or american? I know a guy who is dating a blonde white naturalized american citizen that spent the first 14 years of her life as a citizen of africa. You oughtta see how she responds to americans calling all black people "african american"

oh yah, there was a REAL african who worked at the same company i do years ago, he got laid off in the wake of the .com bubble collapse. He was bron in freakin NIGER, in a poor as dusty little crap town. He told me he first wanted to come to america when for chrismas he got a plastic Kmart bag to carry his books in, that was the best present he had ever got. He lived in a village with no electricity, no running water, as far as i know it was a whole village of nothing but half starved nigerians and a goat, and HE managed to claw his way through school, the universities, got to america, got his CCNA and became a network technician.

He also was offended by the African American" comment because he was african, and thought all these rich little black kids that got to live in houses with electricty were lazy as **** for not doing something with themselves. lol.

I know i dont go around saying im Norweigan-American

This "African american" thing does nothing more than to segregate the "races" further, and i dont even know why they are called "races" last time i checked we are all the same with some varying pigment traits.

Unfortunatly you have ********* like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who cant see anything beyond race and encourage black people to blame white people for all thier problems rather than to try to help educate them and get them up on thier feet and out of the crappy neighborhoods. All they do is encourage people to sit arounjd and bitch about everything and have everyone hand **** to them, guess what, i had to work my *** off for everything i have, why the hell should they be any different?

What Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton SHOULD be doing is preaching about hard work, education, and equality, not whitey owes me cause my great great great grand daddy was save. They should be discouraging the whole "urban subculture" that promotes criminal activity and violence. They say we NEED a black president, i say we just need a GOOD president, race is not a concern.

No wonder so many average white people think all black kids are in gangs, it is because the media spoon feeds people those stereotypes and a good amount of so called "Black leaders' actually support that subculture and embracing it instead of rejecting it for the vile monster that it truly is.

that said, im on a rant, let me get back to my origional point, i know damn good and well that everyones ancestors have been through worse than a few hundred years of slavery.

I have no problem with black americans celbrating a black president. What I DO find interesting is that while blacks have been through a lot in history, yet they have no apparent love for jews or gays. 99% of all black americans voted for Obama, but voted overwhelmingly against gay rights in those states where the issue was put to a vote.

Hummmm, apparanty blacks never got the memo on the true meaning of civil rights.

I agree with you Jack. I really do. I was tired of people bitching about black people celebrating Obama's victory. Slavery has existed forever. To say which period was the worst is hard to say. I've read some horror stories, but the fact that its one of the most recent slaveries makes it alot worse to me. Maybe not to others. Things are alot different when comparing a thousand years ago, to 150 years ago.

Slavery bad, mmkay?

Religion plays a huge role in that vote.

You gotta accept me for who i am, but we dont have to accept you for what you are.

ugh

personally i think there is a good sized group of black people making all the other black people look like ignorant criminals, and none of the black people seem to be offended by it.

wtf?

Tell that to a Serb, Bosniak, or Croat and you'll wish you never said that.

Also, Jack, Obama did play the race, just he didn't explicitly play it himself but his party did for him. As I said before, you have jackasses, like Murtha (Congressman or Senator for PA, don't know, don't care, he should have been shot) in response to Western PA leaning towards McCain, saying that if you don't vote for Obama, you're a racist.

Is it really RELIGION or MORALITY?

I find it ironic that some groups of people seem to always "vilin-ize" any type of religious connection. If the Catholic Church said "hey, green grass makes for nicer lawns" there will be a group dedicated to shoot the church down by thinking that brown grass was better just because the chuch thinks green is better.

If you study back history and the roots of the Civil-Rights movement back in the 60's, it was the black churches that were attacked and burned to the ground. Thusly, the same people who were rebuilding these churches ultimatley were the ones that rose-up and started the movement.

I also think that this same group of black americans really don't feel that gays have "suffered"....that they have not "earned" the abaility to call their issue a Civil-Right.

I am still young and have a lot to learn. I think that race definetly did play a big role. I go to college about 30 minutes outside of Philly and have a lot of black students at my school. You go and ask them why they voted for Obama, they can't give you a true real answer. Most likely it is because he was black. Some might say they wanted change, but they really don't know what kind of change they are talking about. And I can't stand the black people who say that Obama is going to pay for their gas and pay for the mortgage and things like that. Those are the people that just don't try to make something of their life. Here is the kind of person I'm talking about.

Try youTubing The Howard Stern Show when he was asking people in Harlem why they're voting for Obama, but they replaced Obama's stances of the issues w/ McCain's. One guy even said that he agreed w/ Obama's choice of Palin as VP. Incredible.

Do you actually think it would have been possible for a black canidate to run without somone else playing the race card for him?

cant blame him for that, the only way he could have prevented that is to have not run.

I laugh a people who try to be politically correct and refer to blacks as African American. The irony is, that statement is usually politically incorrect. They are Black Americans. They are not African. They did not sail over as babies to start a new life here. They're as African as my white *** is. Same for Mexicans. Show me where Hispania is and I'll call em Hispanic. I'm not from Caucasia. I'm a white american.

So in a perfect world yes, we'd all be just Americans. Maybe then we'd actually get over ourselves, redevelop a real sense of Nationalism that began with the Third Estate after the French Revolution, and start making international friends again. Part of our problem is our racial civil war in America. But I do understand why they'd be happy. It's just like when some tall *** white guy makes it in the NBA, we're all surprised. Same deal for me.

Totally agree.....I don't know the exact numbers, but I think almost 70-75% of black people in Cali voted yes on Prop 8.....basically against gay rights. If I came from a different planet and was given a quick history of black people and then someone asked me if I thought black people would vote for gay rights I'd say 100% yes, but that isn't the case at all.

Yes, I think it would be possible and would then show that race is no longer an issue. However, if Obama wanted to prevent people from playing the race card for him, he could have grown some ***** and denounce those, like Murtha, who played the card as being racists themselves or by going against Dr. King, Jr.'s dream when men as judged by their merits, not the color of their skin. A simple public announcement to throw them under the bus is all that is needed. Heck, he had no reservations on doing it to his sick Grandma and his Pastor/friend so why couldn't he do the same for an idiot like Murtha?

I completely detest the fact that "race" is still all around us. I am three quarters Cherokee indian, and you will never seen me put it on any document that asks for it. I hate stuff like that, Affirmative Action is the bane of my existence. As for having a black president, who care? I truly don't. I personally didn't vote for Obama because I didn't agree with his tax plans. That's generally what I care about most as far as the issues go. And I completely agree that Sharpton and Jackson should be shot and put out of my misery. They throw the race card like a couple of guys throwing around a football.
