Well went by the body shop today and talked to the dude. Got some bad news. He said that some of the prices were way off........and there is a high chance that my car is gonna be totalled out. very sad. If they do i'm just going to get a notch and slide a 351 in and stoke it out to 408 with some H/C/I...... o well.

Modular Fox FTW!
BTW The new pistons are at the shop, appox 1-2 weeks turn around time for the balancing, etc.
I also added a few more things for them to do, including making sure the deck is square and level so i dont end up fighting head gaskets. The LAST thing I want to do is battle head gaskets on a 5.4 with head studs, although I'm told they have the new style with the allen head now, but still.
Anyhow they actually said I could pick everything up Friday but I told them not to rush.

ok has anyone actually done a 5.4 3v swap? I have one that I am trying to get swapped and everyone is telling me that it can't be done.. to much work and to much money to do it.. I have had two shops now tell me they can't do it.. not even in a month.. if you have done this do you have pics as well.. I am on my final straw. I need to get this thing done. or is there anyone selling a full 5.4 2v or that would be willing to trade for a 3v

3V2000GT on here has done a 4.6 3v Swap - the process is 98% identical with the exception of the intake issue.
EDO on Corral has done a 5.4 3V Swap
Assisinator on Modular Depot has done a 5.4 3V Swap, he has quite a few writeups on stangnet under another screen name (that I cant remember now) but I dont think the pictures worked.
Typical thinking from uneducated minds. 99% of the Mustang community assumes that 2v to 3v/4v is the same cost and quite expencive, and that 4v is the only thing worth swapping to. They dont take the time to learn about the potential of the 2v and 3v both.
The 3v is really a fairly simple swap, and the cost is cheaper then a 2v if you are building a 5.4 and need things like timing cover, timing chains, etc - and its damn sure cheaper then a 4v.
I don't know who they are, but those sound like some pretty lame shops IMO. To the people and shops who say it cant be done or its to much money. I'd like to know WHY? Ask them why can't it be done, ask them what is so expencive about it ? I'd love to hear. The most common awnser you will hear is the wiring harness... thats BS. Your computer doesn't care how many valves you have - just that its a Modular V8. The cam lobes control the valves.
Livernois did 3V2000GT's swap - you can find the info on them from google. Where are you located ?
Hope all this helps.

don't worry about shops... when i was trying to get a shop to help me do my 5.4 swap alittle over 2 years ago, every shop including the ford dealership said it was impossible. i even took the magazine with it to them and they said for dmade custom stuff to make it work. one guy here who is a wiz with modular motors said he'd help me since i was so sure it would work. and everyone was like ' whoa!' when they saw it going down the road after that.
- sorry to ramble on. but if you want it, find a way to make it happen...

The 2005 + Mustangs changed the style of motor mounts, I'm not sure when they did it in the trucks. If you have that style mount there are some adapters to convert to the old style. I believe MMR sells them for under $100 as do a few other places.
If you do not have that style mount, then they are full of malarkey and it will bolt right up to your K member.
The exhaust yes you will need a little custom work, but you will need that no matter what 5.4 you swap.

Don't trip on it. You can take your car to Apex motorsports or valaya racing in Santa Clara and San Jose respectively and they'll be more than happy to do whatever you have the money to do. I deal with both of them quite a bit.
I'm doing a 2v 5.4 and I tell you what it's not hard but part selection is important for 3v. The blocks that came with 3v heads on them have different motor mounts but the 3v heads bolt directly onto the earlier 2v and 4v blocks with no changes. 3v front cover fits and all. If you want to use a complete 3v motor, then you'll need to have motor mount adapters made. It can't be that hard. It's just friggin metal.
The exhaust will have to be tinkered with in only very minor ways. Stay with an H-pipe for maximum ease of modification.
If you have extended questions, come on down to the bay area (I'm close to Tracy) and we can chat at length.

Wouldnt the 5.4 Truck intake be more hassle and a downfall for the engine ?
Its got the long runners, and a small top mounted throttle body in the center of the intake, + the cable lenghts might change.
Although its a torquey son of a bitch, I have an 07 F150 5.4 3V 4 Door and the slightest blip of the throttle and its moving, thats a **** load of weight to get from 0-60 too.

the truck intake suggestion was only for those that may not want to go adapter plate or custom/aftermarket intake route. keep in mind the 3v 5.4 makes 300bhp and like 375tq with a crappy factory tune. It's a helluva strong motor in any setup when stuck in a car that weighs 2000lbs less than the one it came out of. I'd bet 400rwhp is going to be put down by the next guy to do a really nice 3v buildup on a 5.4. Granted it may be at 6200rpm but hey... that's cool.
On the 400rwhp comment - it had better.
Actually I'd settle for 370ish N/A becuse of the lower compression and blower cams.

ok r3d I called both of those places and they both said they have never even heard of someone putting a 3v in a 97 gt. I found a 2v out of an expedition but it has 94k miles on it.. and they want 1500 for it and I paid about that for my 3v with 9k miles on it. This sucks
my 3v came out of 05 f-150 it is super clean. I would hate to not be able to use it.

What year and vehicle is your 3v out of ?
Also I was wrong on the shop that did 3V2000GT's car.
It wasn't Livernois Motorsports, it was Logan Motorsports. I knew it started with an L.

Here is some reading, the guys from Logan who did the swap jump in around page 9 (dont worry, their pages are QUITE short so you see more ads).

So if I wanted to just convert my 2v 4.6 to a 3v 4.6. No upgrades just want to switch over. I would need what?
3v Heads
3v Adjustable Timing Cams
3v Timing Cover
What else? Just want to change the top end over and hopefully gain roughly 60hp with an intake and solid tune.
My 2v is probably making around 220rwhp and I know my cousin's 3v is making 287rwhp with an intake/exhaust and tune.

4.6 2V to 4.6 3V
- CAI
- Bullitt/Cobra Throttle Body
- Throttle Body Adapter (since they use drive by wire and we use real throttle cables)
- Intake
- CMCV Delete Plates
- Heads
- 3v COP Boots
- Cams if you want an upgrade, if not stock work fine
- Adjustable Cam gears if you want to upgrade, if not stock work fine just retard them one tooth and unplug the VCT module harness
- 2v Manifolds/Headers and the Logan 2v->3v adapter plate, or 3v Manifolds/Headers and a little work on your midpipe
Umm, I think thats all....
