That's the HPS intake. The Typhoon is nothing more than an Aluminum copy of the stocker that in most cases, makes less power than the stocker.
Also, when Motor Trend put the 00 R on the dyno, it made 376 hp and 386 ft*lbs. However, it was rated at 385 hp and ft*lbs. So, that thing made something like 400+ hp. The only disadvantage w/ 4V heads is size. The 4.6 is already a squeeze, a 5.4 2V a tighter one, and a 5.4 4V, well, you get the idea. However, 3V and 4V are the best match for the larger 5.4 but because of price, most of us are settleing on ported 2V.

The typhoon doesn't have the plenum volume I wanted for my combo. I like bassman decided on the ported and cammed 2v route, partly out of packaging concerns (tight fit already) but mostly because it's super simple to do the 2v with adapter plates.

My HPS intake has been heavily ported. There's still a bunch more finish work to do on it but I've kinda lagged on that. I've taken out more than 10 fl.oz of material and port matched from the heads to the plates to the intake.

Yeah, my impatience is going to delay me since my Hooker Headers took a good chunk out of my budget w/ all the problems I had. However, if I can get a decent paying job this summer, I may be able to start by next year.

that is pretty cool r3d, i think i'm going to eventually go with the trick flow intake, i just love how it looks.

I've read that the 4v will fit but bairly and if you have to remove the valve covers you will have to drop the engine. That came from boss330 on corral.

I just got my 2vpi heads in and they came off a 5.4 , man i'm sorry dissapointed in them now. The heads "looked" great but when i took the cams out, i could tell that the motor had some major problems. The bearing surfaces looked like some small farmer plowed rows in them.....Took it to my engine builder and he said that he seen worse and to take some really fine sandpaper or some scotch bright and lightly work out the high spots, and then put a little oil on them and put some good cams back in and see if it turns easy without the arms in there. If so then the small ruts won't hurt a thing. Shooooooo. that was something decent to hear. So i'm praying that the things can be salvaged. Pray for them guys.

My tax return should arrive soon which means I will have plenty of cash to finish up my 5.4. Should have everything completed by late August/early September.

lol yea, i just waiting on some money to fall from the sky and into my lap. Seem like every time i get some something happens. I got a little saved up and i'm going to have to work on those heads and i moved my car today for the first time in like a week and notice i had a big puddle of oil under it. Man, its always something. Hope its just a pan gasket or something.

all good things come to those who wait. myillwill has his put together and it's still taking time to get the thing running and tuned. We'll all get there in time.

I've moved on to doing some AN fittings and lines. Getting rid of the rubber lines for my oil cooler. Should be cool looking. Gunna be fun.

turned out I only had the right fittings to do half of it. So... there's half of my oil cooler connected via braided lines and AN fittings. Teflon core under the car and in exposed/abrasive-prone areas, rubber core through the body panels.

I've never had a really bad time assembling them but you kinda have to get all the tricks down for each fitting type and hose type. Lots of details. Looks so much better though.

nice, i just got a pm from another site where a guy is selling a 99 5.4 2v from an expedition , it has 103k on the clock and it has "external head gasket weap" never heard of that, but the guy said it needs new head gaskets and he wants 400 plus shipping for it, shipping is gonna be around 260/300 to get it shipped what you guys think,

O and i found a set of 5.4 "lightning" h beams for 100 bucks plus shipping, he said they where new and he would throw in some rod and some other bearings sounds good, just wondering if they are really lightning forged rods.

One more thing. What would a 11cc piston make compression wise on these motors?

lightnings came with the same rods that come in all the other 5.4 2v's... crap. They break them too. They're I-beams if they're lightning rods. If they're just 6.658" H-beams then that may be a good thing. You'd have to know cuz we can't be good with speculation. If the bearings he throws in are new then groovy otherwise he's just adding weight to the pallet.

The motor seems like a good buy. If it comes with a front cover that pays pretty much for itself right there.

An 11cc dish would make right around 9.3:1 on a standard bore.

Well i'm not sure what forging they are but they look ok and they come with new rod and main bearings . I uploaded this pic, I also run up against a bare block with a crank and timing cover for 50 bucks. But does my stuff transfer from my 4.6 cover swap over? I might just save up for that motor and then bore it over a little and throw some flat tops in it with good rings and put some n02 on it and call it a day.

Ok so i just was wondering, the lightning....it had cast rods, cast crank and cast pistons or just the rods and crank? just wondering....I have done desided that i'm going to go the lightning style motor set up. I'm going to get the 5.4 long and then mod with lightning supercharger and stuff. Is there any difference between that and the regular 5.4 in terms of front cover or anything? thanks guys

That will probably be a really tall engine, would need an insane cowl hood for it to work properly.

Those are nice rods by the look of it. All con-rods are forged (except possibly billet but those don't count), it's just a matter of what material, and the overall design intent. There are some wicked strong rods of the I-beam type that comes stock, stock aren't among them. Pistons in a lightning are forged 2618 aluminum with a nice dish. The stock cranks vary from year to year but early on they were forged. Later on came the cast crank which is strong enough for any street application. Non-lightning 5.4's came with hypereutectic (lots of silicon) cast pistons with a slight dish. They're nice but not super strong.

you'll have to go the hole in the hood route to use a lightning blower. Why not save all that hassle and slap a novi 2000 or a Vortech T trim on it and have it fit under the hood? You probably wouldn't be street legal with a big enough cowl and the hood will cost you several hundred bucks plus paint which is about the difference in cost to getting a new blower kit for a 4.6 and slapping it on your 5.4 with a manifold approaching normal.

what bolts are in the rods? ARP 2000 or what?

Not sure about the bolts. I need to ask him. There is a guy on corral that has the lightning in his car and the thing has a custom sheet metal intaka dapter so that it will fit under a tall cowl or cobra r. I think i got some pics so ill post them. I just really like the idea of just swapping the supercharged motor in.

If you were going to go with this rout, would you just buy the whole lightning motor with supercharger wiring, computer and trans and just swap everything or just go with the whole motor and swap in? Ill post some pics.

that's a big nasty cowl but if you're down for it... have fun. I'd ask him about the whole wiring thing. I'm going the easy route. For me it's my harness and ECU and just a tune. With the L blower it'd be a little more involved in the tuning but I'm not sure about the harness.

Here is a question. Well a few

On a 5.4 SOHC Vorteched fully forged.

Number 1: is 6500 rpm to much, I know the cams will determine the power but will the motor hold it
Number 2: Do I need a windage tray ?
Number 3: Should I use stock or aftermarket Oil Pan
Bumber 4: If you said aftermarket to #3 - which one : http://www.lethalperformance.com/pag...-oil-pans.html
