A couple of seconds to me means anywhere from 2-7 seconds, which is typically normal. If it's on the higher side, that's bad, unless the engine is very cold. However, this could be indicative of a bad fuel pump.

As for the ticking, is it only at idle? If so, you're probably just hearing the injectors. Otherwise, it's probably an exhaust leak.

+ 1 on the fuel pump, also some of the 4.6s took a second or two for the chain tensioner to get "pumped up" this is because of gunk built up in the tensioner. Keep changing the oil that will probably go away. But that was only on start up usually with a cold engine.
