Default 180* Thermostat???

Any of you guys running a 180* thermostat? Just curious because I've been thinking about going with a 180*, but I'm not sure if it would benefit my car or not. Any thoughts?

It might be a good idea for me to run one since I can only run 91 octane with the diablo tune. I don't have any detonation as of yet, but it might be a good prevention type of thing. Did you have to adjust your fan settings after installing the 180*??

Is there any particular brand of thermostat that you guys would recommend getting or can I just pick one up at Autozone or somewhere like that?

im using a 160 and it keeps the water temp alot lower, around 1/3 of the way to hot instead of in the middle, its a hypertech powerstat

It has absolutely no performance increase on the mod motor in any way.

I use one. Not sure if it helps, but it can't hurt.

I believe the Lightning uses a 180* t-stat. I think that's the one Napa gave me when I went there to pick one up.

Hmmm...then who knows what they gave me. All I know is that it ran a bit cooler after I put it in.

running cooler is an unnoticable performance gain except that you can run more advance. I'm pretty new to fuel injection, does the computer change the fuel mixture any before it is warmed up? I know it does on startup but what temp does it go to a "normal" fuel mixture. My mustang warms up 10 times faster than my nova and my nova has over 800 hp, but it has no thermostat

I'm running a 180* thermostat on my Cobra. I think it's just a little insurance, and helps the car run cooler.

I know it's good for the Cobra's with the Aluminum Block and Heads, if Cylinder head temperatures exceed ~225 degee's the heads will warp.

Default Came with the Diablo

I got a 180 degree thermostat free when I bought my Diablo tuner. The idea seems to be that going to the premium (93 or 94 octane around here) tune and adding advance would benefit from the lower operating temp. Kenne Bell ships their supercharger kits with a 160 degree unit.

sorry to disagree but look it up a stock thermostat for a 99+ lightning is a part # XL3Z-8575-AA that is a 180* thermostat, have bought and installed quite a few in friends cars, as for performance, you need to have the fan settings set in the tune to have anything noticable on the dyno, the mod cars tend to make the most power between 180-190* from my experience..
