Question Radar Detectors

I was wonderin if radar detectors really work or not, cause my neighbor next door said they don't do ****, but he's a cop so he might just be trying to prevent me from buying one.

well it's not a real specific question. the radar portion works but more and more agencies are switching to laser and all the laser part of a radar detector does is tell you you've already been caught and will probably be pulled over shortly.

Default Yeah

Yeah it kinda seemed a little far fetched that it would stop as much as it claims....but i dunno if i could get one for cheap from a friend or something i still might consider it.

well a good radar detector still helps a lot to catch everything else. Just stay away from those cheap cobra detectors you can get everywhere.

LOL - So a cop says they don't work? How would he know? Those that use them and don't get caught he would never know about.

I think detectors are nice devices to keep you honest. You can't expect to go 100 mph and get away with it.

i really like mine. it has saved my *ss a few times. i have the escort 9500i. their was a few times i've been going 60-70(SL being 55) and i was about 1/2mile from going down a hill and it has started to go off and i always slow down when it does, but anyway their was a cop sitting down the hill. then a few times i've been just going on a straight road and it went off and their has been cops 6-8 cars behind the first car. and its really helpfull when the cops are sitting offside the road checking ppl's speed as they pass. it usually goes off bout 3/4 miles away from them. i also have K band and X bands turned off. when i go by stores X band went off and when i always drive through a certian spot K band went off. the cops around here only use KA and POP band. so all in all i think i like it and glad i went ahead and bought it.

There is a pasport with built in GPS. it will allow you to block a signal you get repeated in a certain location. taht way you can keep all of the bands on. I forget the model number... but it is pretty useful with the GPS. (gps is for the compass/speed ect... not a map

all i have ever heard is they just let you know when your are going to get stoped. but if you drive on a busy freeway ore road you will know the cop is there before he can pin piont your car.

True and untrue. Its to help you from getting pulled over not stop it. My point being that they are use full when used correctly and smartly. You cant go 20over the limit and be the only car on the road and think your safe, because you will be the car that gets clocked and thus pulled over.

However when you use it as you should such as with some other traffic around what it does is let you see when a LEO shoots his radar at other cars which tells you where he is and thus when to slow down. The same for laser as well. If your alone and he hits you well of course your done, when with other cars you can see where he is and slow down.
