window tint- what do ya guys think?
my windows on my mustang are clear, no tint what so ever, its something i want done so i scheduled an apt. with a local company to have them tinted in a week (tuesday the 31st) from what i hear tint laws in new york are pretty harsh and it doesnt allow you to tint the windows toooo much (however theres always cars that are completely blacked out and quite a few verrrry dark), reguardless im def. going as dark as i can legally go. but if its fairly light ... getting to my question... would you go beyond the legal limit? any idea how strictly these laws are enforced ? do they enforce the law every inspection?
thanks

I don't know about NY but when I lived in New Orleans they used to check them during annual inspection. Also the cops carried a meter around too. Once I was hanging out with friends and a cop came up and checked all of our cars, mine were too dark and he gave me a warning.
For what that is worth.

The legal limit in colorado is not very dark, and cops for the most part will not pull you over for the tinting, however, if you get pulled over for speeding and they feel yer windows are dark, they will check em and write a ticket if they are too dark.
I know several people who have LIMO tint all the way around, and a couple with LIMO on thier windshield as well. they have never been pulled over for the tint, but they always get an extra fine when they get pulled over for speeding.

it all depends on the state and the cop too. mine are illegal back home in florida. i'm stationed in VA and they are even worse here. i got a Florida tag though. here in Va i havent gotten hit for it, cuz of the tag. but i got a friend that put VA tags on his, but got the tinting done back home and had to take them off. i got pulled over for speeding about 3 months ago and the cop didnt say nothing about my tints. so it all depends on many things.

First off, we here at Mustang Tuning do not condone any illegal action.
With that being said, talk to the tint guys you got to. They know what will work best and what you can get away with. All depends on what color you interior is as well.
If you go illegal, may as well make it look good, cause regardless, you will be ticketed eventually.

I don't know about where you live but around here after you get the first ticket for tint,or anything else you don't change, you are a marked target and will be ticketed over and over untill you fix the offending part.

When it was done someone slipped my friend a 5% roll, which he originally did my front two windows in and my windshield. He fixed it but left the 5% on the front because it really didnt need to be taken down.

out here in CA, they'll let you tint the rear quarters and the rear windshield pretty dark. the only thing they won't let you do is touch the door windows. big no-no and people can and do get pulled over for it.

Why give a cop an exuse to pull you over? That's my thought. Check with the State Police. In some states, they might not be able to stop you for this infraction and only issue a ticket if they stop you for other things.
If you do have illegal fronts and get stopped, I would immediately roll down your window and hold both hands out the window with your keys hanging out as the cop approaches. One of the reason why cops do not like these is because they can't see inside the window and officers have been killed because of them. Making a move like holding your hands out the window, might hel relax the cop a bit and more likely to cut you a break.
