Default brake light issues

I have had this issue for quite a while now, but it has been getting worse. Around 9-10 months back I had no break lights at all and I was wondering why. I pulled over on the side of the highway (10pm at night) and I took a look under the dash and there was this wire just hanging. I took a look around and I eventually found where it was missing. I put it back in and everything seemed to be better. The next day when I it was light out, I looked under the dash again to see what exactly I put it into. As it turned out, it looked like the switch to the braking system and since I have a auto in my car, its hard to stop without the switch triggering. Also, I noticed the wire, which is pretty thick, broke off...

It was fine till around 2 weeks ago when I had this issue once again. This time I know what it was. I went under the dash, but this time it was in - but I noticed the outside jacket of the wire was warped a bit, like it got really hot and then cooled. I played around with it for a few and I was up and running again.

I found a picture of what half the switch looks like, but it connects to something else with around 2-3 wires coming from it and I can't find it for the life of me Can anyone help find the missing piece?

Thank you!!!
