How can I tell if my car is running lean.....
I just got my SCT tune (mailorder) and wow I felt a nice difference but I noticed that I had alot of exshaust dust on my rear bumper. Now I dont drive the car very much and when I had it out this weekend I got on the throttle a bit more than I usually do. So how do I know if my car is running lean or I just had some carbon build up in my pipes?

Do you hear any pinging in the engine at full throttle? Another good way to check are to pull the spark plugs out and check them....I'm not good at reading plugs, but you can tell A LOT about how your car is running by looking at your plugs

Do you know how lean you have to be running in order for the light to come on?

Thanks....sorry, I don't mean to seem as if I'm hijacking your thread, but I think my questions my help you as well......so technically speaking do you know what A/F ratio triggers the engine light to come on? is it like 15.1 A/F or something like that?

i do not know what air/fuel ratio would triger the light , but mabey randy can step in with some info.

Yeah your right what the crap am I thinking about.. Thats what I meant to say I think I my be running rich. If I am running rich or lean will I get a check engine light? I'll check out that spark plug sticky! One more ?.....If I am running rich what can I do to fix it?

It is normal for your pipes to have black soot in in them. Chips usually make you run a bit more lean and not more rich. Reading plugs tell a lot and if you were really having an issue, your SES would be on, so you should be fine.
If you are running on the rich side, your exhaust will rumble more too while slowing down in gear. Mine does this when I change tunes on my car. i can tell what tune I am running just by the ear.
