My service engine light came on last night. I checked the codes with my X-CAL2 and it said the system too lean Bank 1 and 2.
About a week and a half ago I installed an accufab plenum and trick flow throttle body. Is there any way (prefferably inexpensive) to fix this other then a dyno? Any help would be appreciated/

add a hair of fuel all over the rpm rang with the x-cal2. would be the only cheap way.

I thought about that, tweaking the A-2-F, but if I tweak it too much can't I screw something up?
Besides I'd hate doing a dyno now, my mods are far from done.

adding very little fuel wont hurt it. Plus if it runs worse then you can go back.
But if you just added those parts it kinda makes me lean towards a intake leak somewhere and that is causing the lean mixture.

an intake leak?? Where would I check? Would that be where my CAI is mated to the plenum?

I verified all connections, then bumper the fuel by 2%. That 2% shouldn't hurt anything, right?

when you added the plenum and TB that means the whole intake side above the manifold could have a leak some where. Could be gasket on the bottom of the plenum could be TB to the plenum could be a point after the maf (intake tube connecting wise). Because any extra air not read threw the maf will not be read and will not have fuel added for it and thus make it run leaner. The fact that you added those parts and now it tosses a code makes me think thats the problem.
I have all those mods and mine doesnt toss a code. And it should with those mods added.

I "riched" it up by 2%, and the light left. I've been riding it all day, feeling alot more "peppy" now, with much improved response.
Could there be any damage done by bumping up the fuel? I'll be taking it on a 5 hour road trip Wed, so I'm just trying to clear up anything now.

all cars run different with different parts. Since you added those parts, it increased the air flow, and thus made it run a tad lean. adding the 2% gave it enough to make it happy. adding more fuel won't hurt it,unless you add a crap load, you'll just be wasting gas and have crappy fuel mileage. Some people can add a 75 tB and plenum and there car is fine with it or it's not to sensive to throw a code. it all depends. If you had a vaccum leak your car would have a crappy idle, and you could probably hear is sucking if your under the hood giving it some gas.
You can also drive it pretty good, the bump it either either .5 or 1 % or how ever it goes, then drive it again. if it feels good, bump it up some more. if you bump it up to a point where your car feels like it's getting slower, then bump it back down to the last one and it should be good to go. you can bump your timing the same way, and to much timing is the one that can be a bad thing. |
