Default electric water pump gains, bs?

Electric Water Pump
Billet Electric water pump for 96-04 GT, designed for full time street and race duty, gain 18 RWHP and keeps engine cooler in the process due to billet impeller design.

is this pure bs or water pumps really steal that much power? doesnt seem like you would gain 18rwhp from that.............ill let the pros fill me in

I think the 18rwhp is BS, but I think you probably could free up 5-8rwhp....
18rwhp is way over doing it.

its BS, I remember Bob Cosby testing one on his F/S 1999 Cobra a few years ago and the difference between the stock water pump and the Meziere pump was + 3 rwhp for the electric one. I also have one on my Gt and nearly had a Major "melt-down" when the pump failed wth NO warning and the water temp went from 190* to 250* in @20 seconds, I now have an "idiot light" connected to the pump to warm me if that happens again

I've seen GT's get +12hp in the far upper end but peak was usually around 3-8 gain. Torque gains were about the same. Gains increase with RPMs so high winding motors see the best result.

Electric for street is just not a good idea. There's got to be a backup for a system like that or you end up with probs like Randy had at really bad times. I know of a handful of guys that carry a spare mechanical pump in the trunk because they're worried about the mezeire burning out.

Not worth it if your car is a DD. Even if it isnt, money can be spent better else where before that.

you should generally assume that any gains quoted by a part maker/seller are exaggerated to the point of not containing any truth. Then you won't be disappointed when that comes to pass.

you held out hope that it might not be BS.. I wish I had some optimism left but I spent it all on Worldcom shares. Don't worry... it probably means you're just <30 and haven't become cynical yet. It's cool... I'm not pickin on ya. promise

It actually isn't BS. A little optimistic, but I read an article in M&FF and if I remember correctly, they gained 13hp.

Notice they always gain a little more in MM&FF then the average person does.

here's a tip: take the HP #'s you read in the magazines, divide that # by 2 and you might have a closer HP #. the reason they inflate the #'s is to promote the product that they got for free and are getting $$ from to advertise, to sell to you for a profit

well i know the f150's gain 10-even 14rwhp with that pump. They have been a few private dyno times with them nothing with the company or magazines involved. But thats f150's i would imagine the gians would be a bit less on the mustang due to manifolds being different, tunes, etc..

i'd say so. the new 5.4L 3V f150's that are supposed to be delivering 300bhp are putting 235ish to the pavement. That's a hair short of 25% driveline losses. They can use any help they can get.
