Where are the catalytic converters?
This is great information. Especially for a noob like me.
I am still unclear about something. If I understand correctly, the headers are attached to the exhaust ports of the engine and fit to the mid pipes, which fit to the "cat back" system that normally include the muffler and tips, correct? Where are the catalytic converter(s)?
Looking at an exhaust system like the JBA Stainless Steel Dual Exhaust w/ H-Pipe. It says nothing about the catalytic converters. How many does the v6 have? If I get this exhaust system will I have to but new cats? ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks.

so it goes headers, cats, mufflers, tips
Ok the word cat back is confusing you. a cat back is from the cats back out to the tips. So your hooking up the system to the cats. So no your not replacing the cats. And you have 4 cats

the cats are in the mid pipe between the headers and the mufflers
so it goes headers, cats, mufflers, tips

I'm going to have a local muffler shop fabricate a mid pipe out of my existing single exhuast and have new pipe for my dual with some flowmaster 40's welded on. I was wondering if going up to 2 1/2 in from the stock 2 1/4 in would do anything, The engine is stock so far but I was going to put in some shorty headers and a CAI, which I'm told don't do much if anything. Basicaly would going up a pipe size would make a difference at this point.
Oh, and the pipe behind the muffler is just looks right, so size is just preference?

2.5 pipe is what most systems come in. there shouldn't be a big difference but I would go w/ 2.5. The Only headers worth wile are Long tubes. CAI doesnt do that much, It makes the exhaust some what louder but it looks cool none the less
#132
Thats one way of doing it. Or just buy the mac long tubes and their shorty H-pipe and then a GT catback. Then its all just bolt ons. I would still see price wise which each one is because of course i would go the cheaper route.
#133
Well normally I would go the cheapest way aswell, but that would seem to be just going the with the shorty headers, but going for that gain with long ones might be worth the extra cash, I'm going to crunch some numbers to see how much more that really is.

Exaust help
I have a 2000 v6 mustang and i wanted to put dual exaust on it. I was wondering if i should get an adaptor or if an exaust shop would be able to install dual exaust without it. I was also wondering if it would be worth it to buy headers. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Dual exhaust... go to a shop and have them fab you a custom system.

They make nice headers, but like its been said before if your going to do headers do long tubes or don't bother with them. The stock manifolds are not bad on v6 cars.
#140
I have seen v6 longtubes from headmen but i think they went out and dont have them anymore. So go with Mac long tubes

Me again, was shopping around for mufflers and came across an 03/04 cobra magnaflow exhaust system with tips and baffles for about $250 local pic up. Would I be able to use these on my 02 v6? and are they worth that price? I haven't heard too much about them, from what i got off youtube they sound decent to me.
#144
as far as i know...they won't line up. Cobra exhaust is bigger then a 6's i think.
(Also, I just got my H pipe welded in, and magnaflow mufflers, could be better, but still sound decent...waiting on the headman headers... )

mufflers
im about to put in a custom exhuast system to my 2000 v6 i was trying to decide which mufflers to use. i've listened to a bunch online but i was wondering which will give me more HP. I was debating between the new flowmaster 44s, magnaflows or maybe even some borlas. I like the flowmaster sound but i'v been told that magnaflow gives more power. any suguestions?

also, longtube headers need the engine to be lifted a little.
#149
the cobra's can't go over the rear axle because of the irs rear end I believe
