Question 01 Sixer Looking for advice

Yeah, so I just bought an 01 black v6 and it came with a catback system on it, but i dont know what kind of exhaust it is. My mpg is horrible right now, thats all I know. Also looking for a good set of rims. Any suggestions?

Take a picture of it and I should be able to tell ya. As for rims.. black bullit rims look really cool on a black car, or maybe chrome bullit rims. Saleen replicas also are very cool on black cars.

If the exhaust is too big then your car will actually be slower. Stock cars without a power adder need a bit of backpressure in order for it to run right.

Ditto. Good advice; a V6 without a power adder or extensive N/A mods should stay with a 2.25" dual setup. Check what size your piping is.

2.5 won't kill it that bad and won't waste MPG too horribly. how bad is bad?
Is it H pipe?

Curious: wasnt the piping on the 94-95 GT 2.5?

Could be a vaccume leak, do you smeel gasoline around your car distinctly ... at like idle or driving?

Chrome bullets look killer on black I have some on my 02 mineral gray ( look at sig).

Mustangdewd3.8 the gt's did come with 2.5 but they also have v8's bigger intakes more going on in the engine with 6 cylinders unless you have some serious ported and polished head, intakes,a cam or a power adder you dont need 2.5 you lose to much back pressure.

Yes but the 6 cyl has 200 hp (3.9 liter) and the 193 hp reg one and that GT only had 215... 15 hp ...? putting out about the same, get it? lol

Slap on a CAI some pullies and I dunno roller rockers with 2.5 inch exchaust can get a 99+ v6 about 215 - 220 hp worthy of 2.5 inch piping.

v6's are no slouch anymore

But you are missing the biggest thing here...those GT's had TONS more torque, and backpressure was not as important as it is in a 6...Horsepower will increase, no one is doubting that, but with the lack of back pressure it will not be as strong off the line as stock...and subsequently not give you the power it will for the bigger motors...

How do I know this? Some of the bigger tuners in the Mustang World are Roush and Kenny Brown....BOTH have a V6 mustang...BOTH went with a Y design into duals to keep the back pressure yet increase flow....These guys know what they are doing.

2.5 is WAY to big for the 94-98 V6...It is a little much on the 99-04 V6

Yes yes more torque, we all know about it. Im saying it's not bad on the 99 + and yes the 94s had what 60 more lbs ft torque. all im saying it's not that BIG of a difference and not that BIG of a problem.

yes a it's a lil extreme on 94-98, but it will be fine, if someone made the mistake it will still work. as for me I stuck with 2.25, and I still lost power.

Kenny brown and Roush, imo just make flashy stangs for the v6 they are not really into performance for them we know that.

never ever get 2.5" piping for any 94 - 04 v6 unless it either has:

a supercharger

or a very expensive n/a set up pushing out high hp.

You just dont need 2.5, 2.25 is perfect.

Are you serious?

Have you ever read/driven a Kenny Brown 3.8 Special? The only flash on this car is the cobra wheels and black hood stripe! Do some research on this car...It is in the same ballpark as a Stock GT...

It's not a big problem..Its a HUGE problem...without the correct horsepower torque curves you will not have the true power you are wanting...

best analogy I have ever heard...

Horsepower gets you to a wall, Torque gets you over it....

Talkign H pipe Dual exhaust, my friend just did this on a 2001 v6, 2.5 inch H pipe, he said it feels no different.

But think it about it, if you kink the bends and don't do mendral bending, oyu won't lose too much back presuure.

and Im saying it's nothing big because it usually not for performance on the 3.8 it for sound.

or they are setting up for a supercharger which would compliment the power increase. you don't want a supercharger on an engine that cant breathe.

yes you will lose torque Im saying it's not that bad because most dont want performance out of their v6 but if they do it this way they are capable of gigantic performance.
